hi, i currently have all my cds ripped as 320kbps mp3s, in your opinion, would the quality be ok if i used the itunes option to convert all files over to 128kbps AAC format?

sorry, i wasn't clear, i'm using a shuffle 1gb and theres an option to convert all files over 128kbps of any compatible format to 128kbps AAC when transferring to the shuffle, not converting my whole collection to 128 (dear gawd

), i have tons of hard drive space but only 1gb on the shuffle, now i fit about 150 songs with the cds at 320kbps mp3 format which is kind of ok but i was just wondering how much of a hit it would put on the quality

so the real question is: how big of a difference can you generally notice in a 320kbps mp3 versus a 128kbps AAC file? i love the detail and quality on the 320kbps files currently, just wanted to get some opinions before i test it myself, i am listening to this with sennheiser mx500 earbuds

Well, as you'd be transcoding, those files wouldn't even sound as good as 128kbps AAC.

Why would you want more than 150 songs w/o a screen anyhow?

Oh, and you know you want to upgrade to some Koss phones. Cheapest upgrade ever!

Why take already good quality files and shoot yourself in the foot? It's like "upgrading" from Er-6is to E2cs...

thanks for the input everyone (except jesse_w), i am buying my gf the ksc75's, i'm a earbud guy, no clip-ons for me, the senn mx500s are pretty damn good for $15, i will most likely try out transcoding 128kbps AAC when i get the chance and most likely just leave them at 320kbps when it doesn't sound good enough

Jimothy, i want more than 150 songs because i like a larger selection, i keep the setting on shuffle and songs do repeat throughout the course of 1 week which how often i change the songs and recharge the ipod, not that 150 isn't fine, it sure is but a bit more is better

^ both of you need to to chill for a sec, but he has a point; it's not that hard to test a single file....
