253.  Every time I log into head-fi, I want to buy something new as a result.

241.  Despite the push to have all questions go in dedicated "Ask your questions here" threads, at least 10 noobs a day start new threads asking "best headphones for XX dollars."

And why should you ask only on the "Ask your questions here" threads , and have your  question mixed with the questions of other member. Seems the plan to get no answers.

True, some of these noobies will ask 5 questions, buy some 'phones and disappear forever, which leads me into #254...

254.   Always be nice, courteous and welcoming to noobies! And never assume they don't know anything.   They probably don't know their way around the Head Fi web site and usually don't know much about 'phones but don't assume this!

255.  Don't assume I know anything.  Because, I usually don't.

256. There are reviews that were written by people with a vested interest, and the ones written by those without. Take heed!

258. Headphones usually cost a lot more than they're really worth (HD800 - T1).

What determines their worth?  Is it not the consumers who are willing to pay the asking price?

In my opinion, the sound quality, the parts that are used, and the build quality, but that's subjective.

259.  Headphone cables are also very overpriced for the parts that they use.

My edits are not sticking. Can anyone else see them?

That determines their market value. If that was all that mattered, there would be no discussion in this hobby.

260. Audiophiles are hipsters.

You expect a $1500 headphone to use $1500 worth of parts?  Ever heard of overhead costs, R&D, etc...?  As for sound quality, of course that's subjective, but what do you have to compare against?  The lower tier headphones?  Are you mad the HD 800 doesn't sound exactly 3.75 times as good as the $400 HD 650?  Diminishing returns is at play here and it's unavoidable.

I'll tell you one thing that isn't subjective though.  People do pay these prices for the flagships and thus to them, it's worth it or else they would've distributed the money elsewhere.

260. Headphones are worth less when you're the one selling them. Miraculously, this does not affect the other sellers around you.
261. Trying to sample a bunch of headphones without any nearby meets and without regular income to buy new headphones with without having to sell your current headphones first and hope you break even so you can afford the next pair is a BAD idea.

262. Once you start to get into audio, Head-Fi, listening to music, and tuning your gear become one of the most addictive hobbies in the world.

264: People spend an awful lot of time listening to terrible music, that sounds really good.
