Others do well with just 4 est so 8 est are first time I have seen in an IEM maybe there are some IEM out there which also have 8est or even more.
But est are most expensive component in drivers.
Fiio has proven they can tune very nice IEMs with few drivers but now why this driver madness.

I think X series in IEM are Fiio's way of making statement 🤔

The only one I can think of is MuxicBox Steranko 40, which is 2 coax, 10 BA and 8 EST per ear.

Why 8 est? Isn't that overkill and resulting extra cost?
Hi, the sensitivity of the Sonion EST unit is only 99dB/mW, while the sensitivity of dynamic and balanced armature units can exceed 110dB. Due to the "masking effect," a straightforward approach is to increase the number of units to boost the sound pressure level, ensuring a balanced sound pressure and energy across low, mid, and high frequencies. This also results in higher energy density in the high frequencies, reducing the driving requirements.

The FX17’s cable utilizes three different transmission materials – gold, silver, and copper. The three elements are forged at over 1000 degrees and undergo secondary refining to form crystalline monocrystals to remove impurities and reduce transmission loss. Each of the three elements have their own advantages, which together result in significantly improved sound quality. In addition, the FX17 includes three swappable audio plugs- 3.5mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced, and Type-C connector with built-in digital decoding and DSP, allowing you to enjoy high-quality audio no matter the device you are connected to.

There is 1 day left before the launch of 1DD 4 BA 8 EST Flagship IEMs FX17. Let’s stay tuned!

Supplement: The spl of est drivers is lower than BA drivers, some est iems on the market adopt super tweeter ba drivers to boost upper treble(which means most of the upper treble you hear is from ba drivers), but the FX17 adopts more est drivers to boost upper treble. The fact is that est drivers have different tone from ba drivers, so the FX17 has a more clear treble tone.

Hi FiiO,

Was the swappable ending changed in order to accommodate the DSP connector?

I thought the system being used in recent years — e.g.: up to the FH19 — to be quite robust. But hey, at this point in time I am actually celebrating you guys kept the MMCX interface.
