Well I've done it, I snapped my AKG K701 adapter inside my laptop (which I got out with superglue). But the question is, where can I get these gold plated adapters? How much will it be? Will it ever sound the same?
 
I see these $1 adapters that look exactly the same on eBay but shipping from Hong Kong will take awhile. Are they the same ones AKG uses? Any ideas? Thanks.

I'd probably go with a "cable adapter" like the Grado, Hosa, or Cardas (for all I know Monoprice makes one too) 1/4" to 1/8" - it should prevent this problem from happening a second time. Costs a bit more, but should address the problem.
