Looks like online retailers are carrying it for $99.99, which is nice to see, with an estimated ship date of 7/15. For some unexplained reason, though, only the Japanese model is going to have RCA's for analog I/O. The rest of the world gets 1/4" unbalanced, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but, hey, we've got Larry @ Headphile to make matching cables for us.

Also, looks like it only handles up to 96kHz, instead of the 1212M's 192kHz, which I don't recall seeing mentioned before. Ah well. It'll be interesting to see how it does as a cheap digital I/O card, though.

Anybody getting ready to take the plunge and tell us about it? (I'm not, yet, so don't give me that look.

I actually have a pair of extra 1/4" unbalanced silver Headphile cables and I'd be willing to part with these for a reasonable price for someone who wants to get this card.

Hope this isn't a emu 1212m killer at half the price

It most likely won't be. The 1212m specs have 117 dB SRN while the 0404 is only 110 dB IIRC.

It may be almost as good though... 7dB difference isn't much. If we're lucky, it'll be a 90%+ type deal for those who don't want to spend twice the price, or who prefer to put more of their money into modding.

...or for those who don't fancy the idea of dedicating three PCI slots to soundcards

Not to mention that finding a suitable slot can be tricky sometimes. I had to discard the possibility to place the A2 in any of three lower PCI slots, as it would pick up massive backround noise from the bottom intake fan - I could literally hear the motor spinning. Bugger.
