I'm looking for USB DAC.
Here are choices
1.EMU 0404 - $200
2.Headroom Mircro DAC- $300
3.Stello DA100 USB-D/A Converter - $695

My setup would be
Computer USB port ( itunes + losseless files) > USB DAC? >Heed CanAmp > DT990 , K701

My computer has the SPDIF out but I have no idea how to use it.
Anyway, what do you think which DAC should I get?

I actually like the Headroom mircro amp becasue the price is right and many people here recommend it.

My second thought , If I bought the Stello DA100 , I would not have to worry about upgrade again.

Do you think the Stello is significantly better than the Headroom's?
Help me please

If your PC has SPDIF then use it. If you are just craving for USB then that is a different issue. A USB DAC first has to convert the USB data to PCM, which is what your SPDIF socket already outputs. USB conversion is fraught with errors. I really don't know why people are so hooked up on it.

Thanks Herandu !
It seems that the Headroom Micro DAC doesn't have the SPDIF input.
Only coax/optical input and USB are available.

If I bought the Micro DAC ,should I get the sound card that has the optical out? or just use the usb?

The 0404 has the SPDIF.
Very interesting.
Have anyone compared HEadroom Micro DAC VS EMU 0404?
Is the Headroom's worth extra $100?

PS. I don't need portability.
