Hi all,
I am currently looking for a new pair of good quality headphones
smily_headphones1.gif
, I want them the best sound quality possible as I don't intend on upgrading these anytime soon.
They should also be fairly low impedance (~32 Ohms), comfortable and suited to the mix of genres I enjoy (mostly rock) as well as my, soon to arrive, Mini^3 amp and Alien DAC combo.

My current options are;
Equation Audio RP21,
Goldring DR100,
Alessandro/Grado MS1,

Slightly Over Budget
(Are they worth it?);
Sennheiser HD555,
Goldring DR150,

I have missed out the Grado SR-80 as they overcharge horrendously for these in the UK/Europe.
If you think I have missed any headphones let me know.

Thanks for looking!

Maybe add HD595 to your options ? ;p

A bit over budget I guess.

I seem to be recommending these alot, heh, maybe a bit to much. Haven't heard the other phones you mentioned.

If only, I can't really justify any more money as I want some new earbuds too.

Currently leaning towards the Alessandro but any comments on the Goldring and Equation are very welcome.

If you want an open headphone, I would go grado. I have sr-60's and they are awesome. If you wanted a closed headphone go with the rp-21's. Good isolation, and everybody loved copper orange colored headphones!

The entire Grado line ridiculously expensive in Europe, the MS1 is cheaper than the average price of a new SR60.

@ PJ are the HD555 significantly better than the others listed? The cheapest I can find them (in stock) is nearly £60 plus shipping. Are they much harder to drive (50 Ohms rather than 32 Ohms)

I dont think I would go over budget for the HD555, allthough they'r really comfortable.

Maybe you could try auditioning some of them?

Goodluck!

I live in Northern Ireland, the closest thing to a specialist Audio shop is a Bose Outlet

I was including the Allesandro in that blanket grado statement. So what i was really saying was, if you want an open headphone, go AllesandoGrado.

Sorry, my mistake.
I singled out the Alessandro as it is not included in Grado's price fixing.

Alessandro if you want great mids and highs and tight bass.

RP21 if you want strong bass and hard bass and decent mids and highs. And isolation too.

Cant comment on Goldring. Only Goldring that is somewhat known here is DR150 and I havent heard that either.
