Starting to DIY cables...just short of techflex, is there any other sources for the cable braiding...similar to to the audioquest cables with their cloth exterior jacket..

You might want to ask at Sundial wire which makes all sorts of cloth-covered reproduction wire.

I've also used shoelaces for replicating cloth-covered headwires on old fans. If you get the wider shoelaces, you can snip the ends off and they (usually) open up and will let you pass a wire through.

I've seen shoestring used before.

Group Buy anyone ? I'd be interested in a size good enough for 4S11 cable as well as good ole RG6

Actually, if it's intended to be put over an already jacketed cable, the best way to do it is to braid directly over the cable than to try and shirr the "shoelace" over top of it.

Here's a link to the natural unbleached cotton sleeving I use on my own DIY cables : ALL sizes

Just type in the words "cotton sleeves" in their search box.

The 2mm is what you want to insulate individual conductors for interconnects. I twist mine tightly together in one of my several configurations of cable construction, and have NEVER had a short through the cotton !

Told you guys, I've been building my own for 15+ years ... Cheers !

Yeah, they offer a good selection of sizes.

Yeah, as long as you don't spill your beer on it.

By the way, if anyone wants any 2mm cotton braid, I have a fair amount that's left over from a past project.

It uses 32 strands of high quality American made tex 30 cotton thread from American & Efird in a 16 x 2 braid (i.e. 16 bobbins wound with two threads each).

I have it in solid red as well as unbleached natural cotton with four different tracer colors (red, dark brown, yellow and orange).

I'll let it go for 25 cents a foot plus postage.
