can you do direct comparison with Fidelio X2?, i bought  X2 mostly for gaming but im thinking to upgrade to hifiman edition s now, however i might save money and just get these..

Blaser39, have to be honest: my review comments relied on long use of/familiarity w/the Fidelio X2's, not cut-by-cut comparison of them vs the Yenona's. Plus I never heard the hifiman edition s, no idea how they sound vs the Yenona's. So take this w/a grain of salt.

IMO the Yenona's are obviously lighter & somewhat more comfortable than the X2's. They have  pretty good soundstaging for closed cans, but not as good as X2's, which definitely sound "bigger" on some material. They have somewhat better resolution than the X2's, though it's hardly an extreme difference. Bass is overall comparable, but subtly different: I think the Yenona's bass starts a little lower, has equal impact, but a bit less "hump" than X2's, though it's probably up a few dB vs mids/treble (ie, not totally neutral HPs). Still, the X2's bass is very nice/satisfying...there's no "winner" here.

Both headphones sound warm, somewhat lush & euphonic overall, maybe the X2's a bit more euphonic (really getting granular now).

I don't game. I enjoy both headphones a LOT for music. But right now, the Yenona's are more convenient.

I just researched hifiman edition s ($249 on Amazon, convert from closed to open back). Totally different animal from the Yenona's--which cost $60 & are closed-back. Not sure you should think of this as "either/or"

Without an amp how do they sound?
Pharmaboy

I never tried them w/o an amp. I don't use a cellphoney, nor do I have an mp3 player or other digital player. Still, based on their behavior--easy to drive to high volume w/all amps on hand; sound very good even on my lowest-power dac/amp (FiiO E10K), then scale up subtly from there--I'm guessing they'd sound OK w/a cellphone or digital player. The only thing that might not come through on a low-power device is that excellent bass...but this is just guesswork.

between this and the lyxpro has 30/ISK MDH9000/maratz MPH2 which one would you prefer?

I have come to prefer the Marantz MPH-2's/LyxPro HAS-30's over the Yenona's. They're not quite as comfortable as the Yenona's, but to me, their sound is somewhat more balanced and accurate to sources.

The Yenona's are a really fun headphone, but they're a little more colored/U-shaped overall.

Hi! Did you ever try to fit yenona's pad to SZ1k/2k? And did you finally get those extra replacement pad?
Plus, are they still good now? No crackling driver whatsoever? Considering they are chinese made, and now only at $40.

Interesting question. No, it never occurred to me to swap out the JVC's pads for Yenona's. For on thing, when i had the JVCs, I was still using the stock pads on the Yenona's. For another thing, the Yenona's pads aren't as "stretchy" as the HM5's, which is what I almost immediately put on the JVCs (big positive difference in comfort, if not any real change in sound).

The Yenona's aren't getting much head-time lately...got a ZMF Ori, and it's so good that my other HPs ended up on the sidelines. But the Yenona's still sound good & work well. I had a few sonic issues w/them, but really nothing as far as fit, useabilitity, unexpected driver sounds, etc. They're pretty solid IMO. The worst thing I could say about them physically was that the 3.5mm input jack sucked, but that didn't matter to me in the least, 'cause the 6.5mm input jack is a champ...

So the SZ have a bigger cup size than the yenona? Another one, if you said yenona's have better resolution than fidelio X2, the resolution must be far better than any of the SZ right?

Oh wow, the wood zmf ori? Which one did you get? The cocobolo?
Yea, well for $900 and planar driver, they better be super good.

Well, the JVCs looked larger than everything else (a big, heavy headphone). But in reality, they were probably just 2-3mm larger in diameter (~98mm) than the Yenona's (~95mm).

The Yenona's may have slightly more resolution than the X2's, but it's hardly a big thing (neither headphone is in the Beyerdymanic or HD800 league for resolution).

My Ori is "ormoisia henryi" wood, which is so pretty--kind of a lighter, more figured variation of walnut, w/a warm, medium brown tone. Beautiful wood. The other wood that really pulled at me was bocote, an exotic, highly figured wood. When the grain runs vertically, it's extremely striking. But I thought I might get tired of that flashy look.

And it really is super good. Sometimes you get exactly what you pay for...

Okay than, i'll get the yenona then.

Hmm... Gotta get me them wood cans someday..

Well, thanks for all the information!

I hope you really like the Yenona's (I sure do). And my advice is this: once you hear how good this inexpensive Chinese headphone design is (just $40-$50 bucks for an extremely "fun" pair of headphones)...start saving up for one of the ISK MDH9000 rebrands.

The 2 designs have certain similarities, but sound somewhat different. I've very glad I own both headphones.

Damn, i was confused whether to get the MDH9000 or Yenona, that's why i asked you about yenona. Then im pretty sure to go for the yenona, until you mention the ISK's, now im back to be confused again.

I guess you haven't make the review for the MDH9000, i cant seems to find yours.
