About Me

Like most people, I am an avid fan of music ranging from my all-time favorite Metallica to 2Pac to Mozart, YoYo Ma and a lot in between (sorry country but heck no). I have what doctors would call a compulsive disorder for headphones as I can never seem to stop buying and trying. I am not an audiophile, but I have a worthy quest to find the best headphone / earphone for my tastes and I like to test new gear… a lot. I rely on my ears, and my listening pleasure to determine review scores. I just hope to help other people find nice devices that will suit their taste and their budget.

As my ocd of headphones is expensive I tend to hover around the $200 or less range of headphones, sorry fancy schmancy headphone connoisseurs. Also I prefer Bluetooth as I am on the go a lot and don’t like cables (que the diss sesh of poor BT quality headphones). Enjoy!

-Build Quality

Housings: These are medium size housings made of metal and plastic. About average for built quality.

Cable: The cable is a small and round with tension relief at the earbuds. Cable seems prone to tangling and may break over time

-Functionality/Pairing/Range

Pairing for most BT is the same so I will only call out if there are issues.
The TT BH16 has a built in 3 button controller like just about all BT headsets. Volume Up, Down, Power, Sync, Track Skip.

Using my OnePlus 3 all buttons worked without issue.
The signal was strong and I was able to walk about 20-25 ft before skipping occurred. Pretty standard.

-Comfort

I will be honest; I don’t like silicone tips. Once you go Comply, you don’t go back. So I always buy the correct comply tips to go with my set. These are not listed on Comply’s site, but the 200 series seem to fit well. I prefer the Ts-200 comfort.

With the comply tips I got a good fit with a nice seal. I really liked their ear hooks. They fit well and kept the earphones in places without issue.

-Sound Review

I always test with the same devices and song list:
Devices: OnePlus 3 & Macbook Pro
Songs (don’t judge me):

Eagles – Hotel California [Hell Freezes Over Live Edition]
Metallica – No Leaf Clover or Fade to Black
Big Tymers – Still Fly
Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath
Enya – Oronoco Flow

These are an overall good sounding earphone. They are tuned for bass, but also have some good range in the middle. They do lack in highs though.

The live rendition of Hotel California sounded good with the bongo at the beginning booming. Not overly bad, but it does drown out the guitar strums. Voices were good if not a little flat.

Oronoco Flow sounded different with an added layer of bass, the background came to life and Enya’s voice was a bit recessed. I liked the new sound, if not a bit too bassy.

Comparisons

--TT BH16 vs E10BT

The BH16 is about ½ the price of the E10BT. With that you lose the upper end quality provided by the Soundmagic’s. The BH16 fit and stay better and would be far superior for any kind of workout. E10BT sound better and have longer battery. It’s really a tossup of what you use them for.

--TT BH16 vs Brainwavz Blu-Delta

This is a closer comparison with only a $5 gap. The Brainwavz sound quite a bit better and have way more accessories, but the BH16 fits and stays better, is waterproof and has a magnetic necklace type feature that Brainwavz omitted. I would choose Brainwavz myself, but again fitness might be another option.

-Conclusion

For the low cost of $30 these are quite a deal. They sound ok and actually have a good amount of bass for those needing some extra booming motivation. Their ear hooks work really well and they are comfortable. If I was more active I would choose these over a lot of my other choices, but given I am not the sound quality is just too bass heavy.
