I bought my R55 when it was first released in Japan. I was on a concert tour, saw it in the Sony Buildign and in Akihabara and just had to have it for recording my playing.
The audio quality was superb for it's time, though not nearly as nice as my mom's TCD-D100. It had noise that the DAT did not.
Not great battery life...
Anything else, not sure.
