New Head-Fier
Pros: Inexpensive. Built reaspnably good. Variety of Eartips
Cons: General sound quality at the start
I bought these SOL AMP in-ears at a local TJMaxx store for a reasonable price. The build quality is pretty good and the sound isolation is very good. The sound quality had some issues out of the box. Initially, I found the bass somewhat boomy and not very deep. The midrange sounded boxy. The highs were not as crisp as I like it. If you have ever heard a pair of very large cheap Japanese speakers from the 1970s or 1980s, you have an idea of what I felt I was hearing. Overall, I was not impressed at first. One thing that these SOL Amps have is very good sound isolation. For that reason, I used them for several weeks to monitor what the laptop at church was doing on the audio side while video recording the service. Here is the shocking part. After several weeks of beating on them like this, my SOL REPUBLIC Amps started sounding a whole lot better. It was a big difference. My guess is that I experienced a break-in period with these (I don't often experience such break-in situations with sound devices). As a result, I was rather surprised and can now give the Amps a thumbs up.
