Hey y'all! I'm EnemySpider!
Before I start this review, I want to say that this is not a traditional review. My review style is just me talking about what I think of the IEM. I do not recommend things.
I am a high-volume listener.
I listen to a wide range of music. I listen to uptempo hardcore (example: Slurring (Semperfusion Remix) - Dead X) and pop (example: Bring Me To Life (Remastered 2023) - Evanescence) the most. I use Spotify for my listening.
This will be a two-part review. A "Stock Review" and an "Upgrade Review."
My goal is to see if I like the IEM with no extra gear and if I can make the IEM sound more enjoyable with different ear tips and an external DAC/amp (dongles).
For the stock review, I use the stock ear tips, stock cable, and no external DAC/amp. The IEMs are connected straight into my workstation laptop.
For the upgrade review, I use different ear tips, a modular cable, and most of my external DAC/amps.
^My graph^
Channel matching is not great!
I will be reviewing the SoftEars Studio 4 today!

This is a loaner set. Thank you, Squiggles, for the loaner set!
I do not have the stock cable or stock tips, so I used a set of 08 tips and Sterling Silver cable.
It fits fine, but the Studio 4 is not vented. The nozzle of the IEM is so smooth that wide-bore ear tips slide off. The nozzle does not have a lip. It took me a while to get a perfect seal.
Let's start with the Stock Review!
I found it to be a hard-to-drive IEM. I had it at 100/100 with my laptop on normal volume music.
Sounds like a low-pinna IEM while being mid-focused.
This IEM has smooth details with average detail retrieval for the price.
Imaging and separation are both good, but a little congested/too smooth. The soundstage is wide.
It has a neutral, bright kind of tonality.
Overall Technicalities Rating is a good 8/10.
The Rating for Driver Configuration is a very solid 10/10.
My Preference Rating for the SoftEars Studio 4, fully stocked, is an 8/10.
The Studio 4 sounds great, but it took me a while to get a proper seal on both sides. The bass rumbles, and I love that. It's very clean and clear, but a tiny bit too smooth. It's also a power-hungry IEM.
Did I enjoy this set? Yes. This IEM is great for Hardcore!

Moving on to the Upgrade Review!
The wide-bore ear tips I mainly use (SS20 & W01) slid off the Studio 4 and broke the seal after 30-ish seconds. It was hard to find ear tips that held a seal without sliding off. JVC Spiral Dot Pro and Penon Liqueur Orange form a perfect seal. It sounds very airy with the JVC Spiral Dot Pro tips. I toned that down a bit with Penon Liqueur Orange tips.
I tested most of my dongles with the song Armageddon - Scarra. That song is so fun and bassy. All the dongles sounded very similar. The main outliers are the KA17, Plus4, T4 PRO, and DX1. Those did change the sound of the Studio 4 quite a lot. DX1 is the warmest but too smooth for my liking.
Did I change the stock cable? Yes, I changed to the LenFan C1 because it's modular.
How does the Studio 4 sound now? Now the Studio 4 leans bright in tonality with sharp detail retrieval. I found that Studio 4 presents music as it is, which means that it sounds horrid with poorly mastered songs. I really do not like IEMs that do not have ventilation, like the Studio 4. It is a pain for me to balance the seals and insertion depths.
Overall Technicalities Rating is a great 9/10.
The Rating for Driver Configuration is 10/10.
My Preference Rating for the SoftEars Studio 4, fully upgraded, is an 8/10.
Final Set Up: Plus4 (Low Gain) + LenFan C1 (4.4) + Penon Liqueur Orange 8/10
Budget Set Up: JM28 + KB EAR 08 + Stock Cable 8/10
Did I enjoy the Studio 4? Yes, it was enjoyable, but it was too sharp at high volumes. It also sounded like the IEM was falling apart at higher volumes, with some bass notes just collapsing. The sub bass had a crazy good rumble.
Did I enjoy it more than Stock? Yes. This was a large difference between the stock and the upgraded. Mainly due to the tips!
That's it!
I found the SoftEars Studio 4 to be a great IEM that was let down HARD by the comfort. Mainly due to the slippery nozzle.
In terms of sound, the Studio 4 is on par with the SLT6. I find the Studio4 to be more analytical, while the SLT6 is more musical and open-sounding. These two IEMs are the best IEMs I have heard to date.
I do not have any discomfort with SLT6, so I prefer SLT6 over Studio 4 for that reason.
!Mambo!
