Actually very comparable to the Fans. Fans with more sub bass focus for bass, SG-03s with a bit more mid bass. Seems to have a larger bass shelf vs the Fan. Their stages are similar from memory. The Sg-03s has a bit more upper mids presence but both excellent with amplification.
If your asking if it would be worth it to get the SG-03s if you own the Fans. I think so. There is always room for nice sounding dynamics. Especailly whey they are chrome plated, I would give the advantage to the SG-03s with cables though over the Fans in how they scale to cables.
EST50s are special at their price. I would actualy consider the SG-03s special at their price. Gotta have your eyes on the prize. Either way I think your golden. Can't go wrong with either one.
Not sure exactly what you meant by ‘2nd nozzle filter is fairly useless…’
When would this come into play (forgive me, although I’ve owned a multitude of audio gear over the years (still do), however I have not ever owned one with a removable or replaceable cable).
I should have explained a bit more into the extra nozzles for the SG-03s. Some IEMs come with removeable nozzles or caps that fit on the tip of the sound stem on the housing of the IEM. If you look at the pic that has everything that comes with the box at the top you will see a set of black colored screw on nozzles. The nozzle has a filter in it which was provided to give a bit of a different tuning to lessen the trebles a touch making the focus of the sound to be more mids and bass which tilts the tone of the SG-03s slightly warm. SG-03s silver nozzle treble tuning is well balanced but will not be balanced with that black nozzle.
I suppose some might prefer a warmer sounding SG-03s but in my opinion it was a sad attempt at giving the end user a different take on that sound. But it isn't nearly as good as the stock silver nozzle sound presentation.
