Excellent review. I read somewhere that this DAP had a thick sound. Your review says the player is natural sounding which it would not be if the mid-range was boosted. Does this player utilise DSP (Digital Sound Processing) to give a 3D sound ? Players like the Pono/Colorfly C4 both use DSP. Interesting comparison with other players most of which you say have more attack than the QA360, it would be great if players allowed instead of EQ adjustments you to set the attack/decay/sustain parameters or hardware colouration, DSP on/off.
@Sefelt103 : this players is NOT about artificial signal processing like you mentioned with others (btw, Sony is the worst when it comes to all those dsp/eq extra modes to color and to expand the sound). You want your source to be as transparent as possible and then let you pick your pair of headphones according to a signature of your preference. Whoever said it has a thick sound, this could be related to sound sig of headphones he/she were using. I never use EQ (used to with Pro 50 until I switched to a better silver cable to eq it "naturally"). Regarding 3D sound, in QLS soundstage control is a function of amplifier section, not some dsp effect. Otherwise, I'm sure they would have tweaked it to improve width to match the depth for a round 3D spacing
Thanks for taking the time, I really enjoyed this review, gave me a really good sense of what to expect. Don't suppose you've since heard the Hidizs AP100 or the Lotoo Paw 5000? Love a mini comparison to those.
