: Gorgeous mirror color scheme, SQ is considered to be good @ this price point
: Cheap plastic construction, Need to adjust clamping pressure, Not for big ears or large head, Not for gaming or huge soundstage
Overview
I found this beautiful looking headphone on a trip to Japan several months ago. I had done several reviews before and had owned many different cans, like K550, K701, Urbanite, NAD HP50, Senn Amperior, etc. Anyway, the reason I chose this headphone to review is because 1) there were so few reviews here and 2) the sound quality especially at the price point impressed me. They are so versatile for out and about, casual type of listening.
The drawback is that it has a plastic construction and leaks sound a little; however, I am still satisfied with the decent SQ without having to worried about losing or taking care of the headphones because it is cheap but well built.
Who is it for?
Pretty much everyone except for people with large head or big ears due to the high clamping force. You can expand the headband a little, but you can't really do much to the cup size. The pads are pretty comfortable for the price (more comfortable than EMU-Walnut). Nevertheless, they do not seal completely because I think Panasonic kinda cheated on the sound just like my TH-X00. There are some holes on the side of the cups just hidden under the headband arms. You can see it under the pictures below.
These are also not for gaming, soundstage, monitoring, or mixing because it a general purpose leisure music headphones.
Sound
Bass - A little lose; and thus, overshadowing the vocals a little, impact is good, warm and thick. Extension is somewhat lacking and quantity maybe a little too much.
Mid - Not recessed and not forward - vocal sounds pretty nice actually.
Highs - this is where I think is a little recessed; and because of this, it may not be as smooth as higher priced cans, like Sennheiser amperior or urbanite, or even harsh sounding. However, it is not as artifical as my K550. I can just call it a little splashy because of the recessed character. The details are still there though quite hard to describe
Soundstage - Because of the small enclosure, it was quite disappointing when I tried watching movie with these. It has depth and good instrument separation but it seemed like everything was closed in.
The best thing about bio-cell cans is that they have very good dynamics (feels more natural).
Sound Character is overall warm and kinda dark and just a tad veiled. They are like a L shape curve if you want to put it in a graph.
It is nice for leisure listening but not for monitoring purpose because it just does not have the transparency of those high-end closed cans, like my Focal Professional or TH-X00.
Conclusion
I will definitely recommend these for budget audio enthusiasts who are searching for fair sounding, fashionable, out & about closed heaphones that are not so common. Making decent closed headphones requires the development of a good driver technology. Yet, most low priced closed headphones incorporate the conventional drivers which created an artificial treble or soundstage with no depth. Thus, if you are looking to buy a darker character & warmer sounding headphones, be sure to check this one out
