I auditioned the PM-2 with the balanced cable, and it just so happens my current headphone is an HD-600.  I listened to both, via the balanced output of the Oppo HA-1.  I'm just 1 to 1 on all the points you've made.  The 600 just had less problems and despite my wanting a headphone with that extended bass response, it was not a better headphone.  The PM-2 won from 0-80hz, but above 80hz was all 600.

Nice review - exceptionally clear details.

I was debating between getting the PM-2 or HD 600/650 and this review has helped me decide.  If only deciding between the 600 vs. 650 was so easy.  Thank for such a well done review.

Postol: Well, HD600 is a bit more neutral than the HD650, but has that 2-4KHz bump that might bother you (doesn't bother most, from what I've gathered). The HD650 is smoother there and generally throughout the entire response, especially midrange, but it does have a bit thicker sounding bass and is more laid-back sounding overall. I found the HD600 responds well to some simple damping mods, which I alluded to in the review, so hit me up if you end up going the with the HD600 and find them a bit "hot" for your ears. I preferred the HD650 over the HD600 out of the box, but you might prefer a less laid-back headphone than I do.

Hello, I just got the PM2. I like them so much, lush and full body at all frequencies. I agree with you that the treble is a little harsh, it gives me slight unpleasant sensation. My question is, do u recommend getting the PM1 original pads to be installed on the PM2 OR getting the PM1 headphones with the new alternative pads?
My only concern is that the original pads that were recommended by Tyll might over-warm the PM2.

They compact, comfortable, lush, warm with no congestion and screaming QUALITY. This is why I love the PM

One more thing, I am afraid that I will loose the sense of air with the PM1. Please advise me .

Great review. I hadn't considered the HD600. Now I think I'll need to have a listen! They are AUD$328 at my local store. Also considering the Audeze El-8 but they haven't hit our shops yet.

I'm assuming that you don't feel the weight on the top of your head with the HD600? This is the reason i sold my last headphones.
