Thanks for the review! Nicely done.  Disappointing to see the bass has some issues needing EQ.  I didn't see much else negative that would lead to 3 stars but I do notice a lack of thrill in the overall tone of the review so maybe they're just not as exciting as the H500BT's were for you.

I actually really do like the H900M, I'm just trying to be as objective as I can and avoid over-hyping something. I try to recognize that it is possible that my review may influence somebody to allocate their headphone budget in this direction, and as such I need to be as objective and balanced as possible.

The need for EQ is as I said in the review I think pretty reasonable, and when balanced against what I feel is overall a very strong sound signature a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things. The 3 star is still pretty solid and I tried hard to make it reflective of the overall quality of competition in the field. As much as I love my Z1R, for instance I wouldn't even give it 4 stars, 3.75, perhaps, but not 4.

I just want to provide as hype-free a review as I can, and if a good friend asked me for the full retail that is asked for the H900M, is it worth it, I can honestly say I feel it is worth the $299 (even as low as $286 that I saw at Accessory Jacks). Yes the H500BT was very exciting as I think it is very surprising for the size that it can still hang with the B&W P7 wireless. Thanks for the comment and reading my review, cheers.

Great review! Very detailed and informative. I could almost "hear" what it sounded like.

Great review. Very thorough. Considering you have both the z1R and the H900M, would you say they both exhibit flagship qualities? I have the MDR Z7 and was going to upgrade to one of these two phones. I like the Z7 quite a bit, but I was also wondering, maybe assuming both of these phones have better sound isolation.

I owned a Z7, but a while back now. I'm not sure the H900M is flagship, but in the world of diminishing returns, it certainly provides stellar performance to cost value without a doubt. I think I would prefer the H900M over the Z7 going by memory, but the Z7 if I'm remembering correctly has a little more spatial rendering ability, but I could be remembering incorrectly and allowing the Z1R to influence me here.

Are you able to get an H900M from a store where a return is possible? If so really do try them, they surprised me and they are really well made and I don't know why I respond to the styling as much as I do, but they really are attractive as well. Hope to hear your impressions if you do end up trying the H900M. Cheers, and thanks for reading the review, hope it was useful.

Hey Beagle, I'm hoping you can hear them in person soon. I would love to get another persons take on these. Cheers.

I may get to go downtown soon Dave so if I do I'll try to do it during your work hours and drop the H900M off for you.

The bass doesn't look like it needs EQ by the graph. It look more like it lies below neutral.

Hi Sweden, yes that was what I was saying, I actually remove a little bass. You don't need to all the time, but for some music I found the sound quality improved by reducing the bass energy a little. Now a big plus is with well recorded, but leaner bass tracks, the extra bass energy is really enjoyable, if you are like me that is and enjoy bass above linear presentation style.

It isn't that I can't enjoy a neutral headphone, I actually can and do still enjoy it, it is just that at this point in my audio passion I prefer a well done, but coloured sound signature. Listened to Keb' Mo' the album was Slow Down and man if the H900M didn't really handle the minimalist blues style really well.
