IVIPQ 100: PREMIUM ON A BUDGET

The IVIPQ-100 in-ear monitors (IEMs) are an impressive addition to the budget IEM market. These earphones promise a high-quality listening experience without a hefty price tag. With a balanced and warm U-shaped sound signature, the IVIPQ-100 aims to deliver a rich and immersive audio experience. These earphones are perfect for listeners who enjoy a well-rounded audio experience with pronounced vocals and airy treble. The lightweight design, made from 3-D printed resin, ensures comfort even during long listening sessions. It’s not just about sound quality; the fantastic looks and sturdy build make it an appealing option for both casual listeners and audiophiles. The IVIPQ-100 aims to offer high-quality audio at an affordable price, making it a great choice for those looking for a balanced and enjoyable listening experience without breaking the bank.

CONTEXT:

In today's IEM market, finding a pair that offers both great sound quality and comfort at a reasonable price can be challenging. The IVIPQ-100 earphones cater to this demand by providing a balanced, warm sound profile that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. I found it very enjoyable in every department, especially the vocal; it’s a bit forward and has a shine. My Moondrop Down Pro shows it very well, but with my ifi Hip Dac 2, the vocals are in the same position as the other instruments, with a bit bold & full-bodied bass. My Cowon Planue R2 & Hiby R3 show almost the original signature of the IEM. I experiment with various ear tips & cables, as I always do. I will explain more about this later in the review.

DISCLAIMER:

One thing more: The review is based on my personal experience and what I hear using different sources. Your experience may very due to personal preference and physical differences like the shape & depth of ear canal.

The build quality is solid, with the resin construction providing both strength and a lightweight feel. ARIF8199-Enhanced-NR.jpg

FIT & COMFORT:

One of the standout features of the IVIPQ-100 is its fit and comfort. The lightweight design ensures that the IEMs sit comfortably in the ears, making them suitable for long listening sessions without causing fatigue. The soft cable is a pleasure to wear, as it doesn’t create any pressure over the ears and eliminates microphonics. The included silicone ear tips, although basic, provide a decent fit and noise isolation, making the earphones suitable for various activities, from commuting to working out. Overall, the IVIPQ-100 offers a comfortable and enjoyable listening experience, making them a reliable choice for everyday use.

ARIF8152-Enhanced-NR.jpg

SOUND IMPRESSION:

The sound profile of the IVIPQ-100 is balanced, warm, and U-shaped. The bass is well-bodied, providing a solid foundation without overpowering other frequencies. Vocals are pronounced and clear, while the treble is airy and enjoyable. The earphones offer good instrument separation and soundstage, especially considering their price point, making them suitable for a wide range of music genres.

Freq Graph.jpg

Let's dive deep ...

SUB-BASS:

The IVIPQ-100 delivers a satisfying and well-controlled sub-bass response. Listening to "Baby I Love Your Way" by Big Mountain, the sub-bass impresses with its good body and authority. The bass lines in the song are delivered with a satisfying depth that adds to the overall richness of the track. Importantly, the sub-bass does not bleed into other frequencies, ensuring that the mids and highs remain clear and distinct. The result is a well-rounded listening experience where the bass enhances the music without overwhelming it. This characteristic makes the IVIPQ-100 particularly enjoyable for genres like reggae and hip-hop, where a strong bass presence is essential.

MID-BASS:

The IVIPQ-100 handles the mid-bass with finesse, delivering an enjoyable thump without muddying the sound or overpowering the other frequencies. On "Take on Me" by A-ha, the kick drums and bass lines are clear and provide an enjoyable thump that adds energy to the track. The mid-bass is well-balanced, ensuring that it complements the rest of the frequency spectrum rather than dominating it. This results in a cohesive and engaging listening experience, allowing the dynamic nature of the song to shine through. The IVIPQ-100’s ability to reproduce mid-bass with clarity and punch makes it a versatile choice for various music genres.

ARIF8166-Enhanced-NR.jpg

MALE VOCALS:

The male vocals in IVIPQ 100 are presented with a natural timbre that is rich and textured without being overly emphasized. The vocals are detailed and maintain a sense of presence, making them stand out against the background instruments. Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" showcases the IEM's impressive handling of male vocals. The warm body in the sound signature adds a touch of sweetness to the voice, making it both smooth and engaging. The IEM captures the nuances in Joel's performance, ensuring that the listener can appreciate the depth and emotion in his singing. This natural and warm presentation of male vocals makes the IVIPQ-100 an excellent choice for listeners who enjoy vocal-centric music.

FEMALE VOCALS:

The IVIPQ-100 shines with female vocals, as demonstrated in "Don’t Wanna Lose You Now" by Gloria Estefan. Estefan's voice is rendered with a sweet and energetic quality that is both clear and well-textured. The IEMs highlight the nuances in her performance, making the vocals sound lively and engaging. The clarity of the set ensures that every note and inflection in Estefan's voice is perfectly reproduced, adding to the emotional impact of the song. This ability to present female vocals with such detail and energy makes the IVIPQ-100 a versatile and enjoyable IEM for vocal enthusiasts.

ARIF8171-Enhanced-NR.jpg

INSTRUMENT SEPARATION:

The soundstage, while not the widest, presents a sense of space where instruments occupy their own positions within the mix. The IVIPQ-100 manages to keep each instrument well-separated and distinct, even in complex passages. "Hey you" by Pink Floyd is an excellent track to test the IEM's instrument separation capabilities. The guitars, drums, and vocals all occupy their own space in the soundstage, making it easy to pick out individual elements of the mix. This clarity in instrument separation enhances the overall listening experience, allowing the listener to appreciate the intricacies of Pink Floyd's arrangement. The IVIPQ-100 excels in providing a clear and organized sound, which is impressive for its price point.

TREBLE:

The treble is airy and well-extended, providing a sense of space and detail that is enjoyable for listeners. Metallica's "Hero of the Day" pushes the IVIPQ-100's treble performance. The IEMs add sparkle and detail to the cymbals and high-pitched guitar parts. This airiness creates a sense of openness in the sound, making it enjoyable for tracks that rely on bright and energetic treble. However, in some recordings or at higher volumes, the treble can become a bit shouty or harsh. Listeners who prefer a smoother or rolled-off treble might find the IVIPQ-100 a bit fatiguing during extended listening sessions with brighter recordings.

SOUDSTAGE:

While the IVIPQ-100 doesn't offer the widest soundstage compared to high-end IEMs, it performs surprisingly well within its price range. Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" is a classic rock anthem that benefits from a spacious soundstage. The placement of instruments is clear – Bonham's powerful drums are anchored in the center, Jones' bass line provides a solid foundation, and Page's iconic guitar riffs have a defined space within the mix. The IVIPQ-100's ability to create a wide and deep soundstage enhances the overall listening experience, making it a standout feature for budget IEMs.

ARIF8161-Enhanced-NR.jpg

CABLE & TIP ROLLING:

The IVIPQ-100's detachable cable opens the door for customization. Upgrading to a pure copper cable can slightly thicken the bass response, making it a good option for bass-lovers who find the stock sound a bit lean. Alternatively, a cable like the NiceHCK MixPP can add warmth and a touch of boldness to the overall sound. Experimenting with ear tips can further enhance the sound and fit. Spinfit W1, Omni, and CP 145 offer good all-around options. For a focus on instrument separation, the TRI Clarion is a good choice. Penon Liqueur (black) adds weight to the bass section while maintaining clear mids. Ultimately, the best tip option depends on your personal listening preferences.

ARIF8173-Enhanced-NR.jpg

Who Should Get the IVIPQ-100:

Budget-Minded Listeners: For those seeking excellent sound quality without breaking the bank, the IVIPQ-100 offers exceptional value. Its balanced and versatile sound signature makes it suitable for various musical genres.
Comfort Seekers: The lightweight design and comfortable fit ensure fatigue-free listening sessions.
Casual Listeners: For everyday music enjoyment, the IVIPQ-100 delivers a user-friendly and enjoyable listening experience.
Vocal Lovers: If clear and detailed vocals are your priority, the IVIPQ-100 excels in presenting both male and female vocals with natural timbre and texture.

Maybe Look Elsewhere If :

Serious Bass heads: While the bass has good presence, it might not satisfy those who crave earth-shattering bass extension.
Treble-Sensitive Listeners: The airy treble can become a bit harsh on certain recordings or at high volumes for those preferring a smoother sound.
Audiophiles Seeking Analytical Detail: The IVIPQ-100 prioritizes a balanced and musical presentation over extreme detail and might not satisfy hardcore audiophiles.:

ARIF8182-Enhanced-NR.jpg

CONCLUSION:

The IVIPQ-100 carves a niche in the crowded budget IEM market by offering a well-rounded and enjoyable listening experience. While it doesn't aim to be the ultimate audiophile tool, it excels in its core function – delivering music in a clear, engaging, and comfortable way. The sound signature prioritizes balance and warmth, making it suitable for a wide range of musical styles. Vocals shine through with natural detail, and the instrument separation is commendable for the price point. The stylish design, detachable cable, and included carrying case add to the overall value proposition. Sure, the treble can be a bit shouty at times, and bass heads might crave more low-end presence. However, for budget-conscious listeners seeking a comfortable and versatile IEM that prioritizes musicality, the IVIPQ-100 is a compelling option. It might just become your go-to companion for rediscovering your favorite music collection.

I really wish for something just as prominent/delineated but that I can listen to at high volume, strictly (it's more engaging that way if that's what you're going for 😉)

Build Quality:

Unlike most budget IEMs that use plastic, the ivipQ-100 boasts a resin shell. This not only makes it look more attractive but also feels surprisingly luxurious in your hand. The lightweight design adds to the comfort factor, making them ideal for commutes or extended listening sessions.

Fit & Comfort:

ivipQ-100 shines in the comfort department. Their lightweight resin design makes them easy on the ears for longer listening periods, and the tight fit many users feel gives superb sound isolation. However, obtaining that precise fit might be important. The default ear tips might not be appropriate for everyone. Experimenting with different-sized tips or opting for aftermarket solutions is suggested to create a pleasant seal and an excellent sound experience.

PXL_20240626_002500330 (1).jpg

Sound impressions:

The ivipQ-100's true strength lies in its sound delivery. It leans towards a warm-neutral sound signature, creating a generally pleasing and balanced soundscape. Here's a detailed breakdown of its frequency response to understand how it translates to your music

Sub-Bass:

This provides a solid foundation for bass-heavy genres like hip-hop and electronic music. The bass avoids overpowering other frequencies, ensuring a clean and balanced overall sound. You'll experience the deep rumble of kick drums and the low-end throb of basslines without sacrificing clarity in the mids or highs.

Mid-Bass:

The mid-bass adds a touch of warmth and body to vocals and instruments, enriching the soundscape and creating a more natural listening experience. This is particularly beneficial for genres like rock and alternative where a full-bodied sound is desired. Guitars will have a satisfying weight, and basslines will feel impactful without muddying the mix.

Mids:

The mids are widely considered the sweet spot of the ivipQ-100. Both male and female vocals are faithfully reproduced. Male vocals sound natural and engaging, while female vocals retain their presence and detail within the mix. This characteristic makes the ivipQ-100 a great choice for vocal-centric genres like acoustic and folk music. Lead singers and instruments are presented with remarkable clarity, allowing you to appreciate the nuances of their performances.

Treble:

The treble is a bit airy and bright, adding a touch of sparkle and crispness to the overall sound. This can be enjoyable for genres that rely on clear cymbals and high-pitched instruments. In my case, I find the treble a bit sharp on occasion, especially at higher volumes. If you're sensitive to bright treble, you might need to adjust the EQ settings to tame those peaks

Soundstage & Instruments separation:

The soundstage isn't the widest, which is to be expected for a budget IEM. For me, the sound stage is decent for the price range. You won't get the expansive soundstage of high-end models, but stereo imaging is good enough to distinguish the placement of instruments within the mix. Instrument separation is good, allowing you to distinguish between the intricacies of different instruments in a complex mix. This is crucial for appreciating the nuances of orchestral pieces or intricate jazz arrangements. While the soundstage might not be vast, the instrument separation ensures a clear and organized presentation of the music.

PXL_20240626_001932416 (1).jpg

Gaming Performance:

While the ivipQ-100 isn't specifically marketed for gaming, its overall sound signature and features can translate well to the gaming experience. Here's a breakdown of its potential strengths and weaknesses for gaming:

Strengths:

Clear Mids and Dialogue Clarity: Many games rely on clear communication and positional cues. The ivipQ-100's well-regarded clarity in the mids ensures you can hear footsteps, in-game dialogue, and other crucial mid-range sounds with precision.
Solid Sub-Bass for Explosions and Impact: The ivipQ-100's sub-bass presence adds weight and impact to explosions, gunfire, and other low-frequency sound effects, enhancing the immersion factor.
Decent Soundstage (for the Price): While not the widest, the soundstage allows you to get a sense of the directionality of sounds within the game environment, helping with awareness and spatial cues.

Weaknesses:

Potentially Sharp Treble: Some users may find the treble a bit harsh, especially at higher volumes. This can be fatiguing during long gaming sessions and might make it difficult to distinguish subtle details in the higher frequencies like footsteps or distant gunfire.
Limited Soundstage Compared to Dedicated Gaming IEMs: High-end gaming IEMs often prioritize a wider soundstage to create a more expansive and immersive soundscape. The ivipQ-100's soundstage might feel a bit limited for those accustomed to a wider sound field.

Conclusion:

The ivipQ-100 carves a niche in the budget IEM market, offering a compelling combination of features and sound quality at a very attractive price. Its comfortable design, warm-neutral sound signature with clear mids, impactful yet controlled bass, and airy treble make it versatile for various genres. While the occasional sharpness in the treble might necessitate some EQ adjustments for those sensitive to bright sounds, the overall value proposition is undeniable.

The ivipQ-100 is a strong contender for casual listeners and those new to the world of high-fidelity audio. It offers a gateway to a world of sonic discovery without breaking the bank. However, seasoned audiophiles seeking the absolute best sound quality, particularly with a wider soundstage, might find limitations. For those on a budget or prioritizing value, the ivipQ-100 is a great option to consider, delivering surprisingly good sound in a comfortable and attractive package.

PXL_20240626_001627536.jpg

Thanks for joining me on this deep dive into the ivipQ-100! I hope this review helped you decide if these versatile IEMs are a good fit for your listening preferences. Happy listening!
