@WNBC actually I think at this point I'd go with the 325. The 'e' improvements are that solid in this case.

@Liu Junyuan yes. Absolutely.

Lots of Beyers, AKG's and Koss on that Snarky Puppy video. And then two guys with Beats. Meh. But thanks for the review, it covers what people really needs to know, in my view, about cans. Non technical, but musical as someone already said. I would like more reviews like that.

Great. Now I want the e series. Would you say it is worth to get the 325e to replace my SR325is?

@WNBC I much prefer my original 325i gold version over the new RS-1e. You mentioned a used RS-1i but the "e" is supposed to be better and I don't like it at all. To my ears, it's thin, honky and has no bottom end foundation at all...and the top end is all messed up too.

the older 325's, such as my 325is are still fantastic....the hot treble mostly taken care of by lots of breakin and sounding great with my (black) ALO the Island. Let's give some love to the previous 325's, amazing phones in the right (my) system and keepers to my ears!

I found the original 325 unbearably bright, edgy, almost painful.  The first headphone I sold immediately without giving them a chance.  I cannot imagine that this new iteration departs from this tonal balance, that would require a complete departure from the original design.  BTW, I'm a fan of the upfront and "midrangy" Grado house sound and love the various 60's variants along with the 225 which I considered the sweet spot of the entire line.

i swiped this pair of 325e's from joedoe, and though i've just had them a couple of hours now, i think joe is on the right track, pound for pound,
and dollar for dollar, the 325e is the bomb !  well done grado !

Great review, Joe! I picked up a new SR125e just today and listening to it now - truly a "get-up-and-boogie" pair of headphones. So much fun factor for the low priced item that it is, it's simply amazing! Yes, the "e" version does smooth out the treble etch quite a bit and it sound just right this round. Even out of a Magni. Punchy and lively. In short, i just love it!

A few months ago I upgraded from the SR80i to the SR325e.
I love the SR80i but thought the SR325e might present the music even better.
So, when I got the new phones, I first listened to a song on the 80s. Then I plugged in the 325e and listened to the same song. I was speechless because it took a while to pick my jaw off the floor.
Everything JoeDoe says is true and I could not say it better.

About a year ago I upgraded from a pair of Grado SR80's, to the SR225i's. At the time, despite not having heard them for comparison, I was put going for the SR325i's due to the comments about them being more 'toppy' than the SR225i's, plus the 225's were two thirds of the price of the 325's.

As Grado have since launched the SR325e, I'm reaching out to anyone who has some experience with the 325e's and can draw some comparisons with SR225i's which I would be upgrading from, taking into consideration the kind of gear I'm using too.

My listening is mainly classic rock, classical, jazz, and blues, and the gear I use to feed the phones is (depending on where I am at the time) either a Arcam CD90 through a Musical Fidelity XCan tube headphone amp, or an iBasso DX50 playing either FLAC or MP3 at 320.

Any thoughts, please? Please bear in mind that I don't have a fortune to throw at this, so the £299 that the SR325e's would cost me in the UK is about my limit. It's a little frustrating that US price of $299 coverts to roughly £190, making the upgrade a far easier decision to make. I guess that's the way it goes!

Thanks.

I can only state on my personal experience with just two Grado cans SR60's and SR325e.
The 60's had me hook on the Grado Style and the 325e's made a fan for life a clear concise sound plate. SR325e produce a very even sound stage. If you want over done bass look elsewhere but if you want a accurate sound reproduction these are for you. Now will they be as accurate as a $1000.00 to $2000.00 set of cans no and they shouldn't be but find a better more accurate pair of cans in this price I doubt it and if do please let me know about it.

In the past 18 months I upgraded from a pair of SR80's which I had owned for 4-5 years. I went to the SR225i's, having read comments about 325's being harsh and heavy. But for the past couple of months I have been the proud owner of a pair of SR325e's, and I absolutely love them. In my view, the build quality, from metal driver housing to the feel of the slightly padded headband is just great.

And sound? Not a hint of harshness, and nor does the weight of the 325's make long listening period uncomfortable. I heartily recommend them.

I had to wait a while before I could afford them, but the wait was worth it, and I now find it far easier than I thought in being able to justify the cost.

1: Thanks for writing this review
2: I like Fidelia as well
3: I currently have the SR125s (i've had them for years), sounds like the 325e may be next in my journey.

I'm not sure if you've owned the lower models, but how much of a step up is this from the SR-80e? I find that they are not as great as my Thinksounds (the bass is unfocused and the positioning and detail retrieval is not the best but they are a lot of fun). Then again they are priced quite differently. Thanks a ton for your opinion @JoeDoe

Great review Joe.  Pound for pound they still are, two years after your review.
