Hi, is it worth upgrading to this if you already have a BTR5? I find the BTR5 a bit sterile and not exciting. I would like to get a simple DAC/AMP for my laptop that sounds very good and doesn't rely on battery while being very affordable. This one seems to fit the bill unless you have other recommendations. Thanks.

Never tried the BTR5 but I can tell you the sound quality for the new K3 is for real. I use Fiios M15 DAP as a comparison point for the sound quality. I use the M15 the most out of all my daps including my DX300Max as I can't carry that unit around. But you would be surprised just how good the K3 sounds in comparison to Fiios own M15. I think it sounds awesome and is very easy to use. Very versatile in what it does. I can't really think of a better sounding dac/amp at this price range that is gonna be better to be honest. I think it sounds better than my Meridian Explorer I bought in 2013 for $300.

Nothing sterile sounding about the K3.

Nice review! I only sold my old K3 since I didn't have use for a computer DAC/amp but it sounded great on IEMs and was super quiet. Might pick this up sometime.

I havent tried the older one but this one is supposed to be a clear upgrade in several fronts. I can confirm it sounds fantastic with both my cans and IEMs. very silent background with good power.

Hi, is it possible to use it with a smartphone (enough battery power)?

I don't think so. It will drain out your battery in no time. It is possible I suppose but these can drive 300 ohm cans with ease so it is more powerful than something like a simple dongle. I was told by Fiio these were designed with computers in mind.

Great review Dsnuts. I have the Fiio FD3 Pro in part because of your review and I am very happy with them. And now I am thinking about this Fiio K3, do you think they would make a good combination? Thanks and sorry for my google english

If you need a simple dac/amp. Yes. The FD3 pro and the K3 sounds great together. I am currently doing a review for Fiios E10K-TC version and the K3 for a bit more than the E10K is a leap in sound quality. As good as the E10K is the K3 has balanced out and has the superior sound quality as well. Highly recommended.
