Brainwavz Truss - The All Metal Under Desk Dual Headphone Hanger Stand Mount

Headphoneus Supremus
Pros: Strong, Sleek, Metal
Cons: I didn't think to get one sooner
Brainwavz contacted me to provide a review for one of their products, and I was glad to participate.
Space is a luxury I don’t have much of, and my headphone collection is growing. The Truss intrigued me, as I don’t have the space for another stand (I already have the Brainwavz Quartz), but the Truss would allow me to use the underside of my desk to store headphones. It’s a great idea, made possible with some strong 3M double sided tape.
About me
I’m a price/performance value shopper in everything I purchase. I spend an extensive amount of time researching purchases and always look for a good value.
I have also spent many years as an A/V and music enthusiast. I have owned some high end audio equipment, from amps, speakers, subs, to just about anything audio related you can think of. I eventually moved on into building my own DIY custom speakers, as I felt the value and performance of most commercial speakers were lacking. I found out through this process that you could create high end setups from equipment costing thousands less than most branded commercial setups.
Since I cannot play music at 100+ decibels all day and night in an apartment complex, I started looking for similar values in the Headphone/Earphone/IEM world. In a Beats dominated setting, I was very disappointed.
I then found out about some excellent headphones/IEMs at great prices being made by Asian companies that are not known of here in the US. It renewed my interest in headphones and became the basis of the Asian audio thread.
My love of quality audio continues to this day, and I enjoy sharing my opinion of the gear I listen to. I have been guided toward purchasing some life altering, fantastic gear from great reviewers, and I feel if I can guide someone in the same way in which they truly appreciate what they have found, I’ve done what I wanted to accomplish.

The first thing that caught my eye with the Truss is the all metal build. There is no flimsy plastic anywhere to be found. The Truss feels solid with some nice heft to it. I had no worries of breakage, nor did I think the Truss would fall while holding headphones despite being mounted with 3M adhesive tape. The tape is strong, so be careful if you ever need to remove it.
The black double hanger design is attractive and allows the outer cups of your headphones to show facing you. It’s a minor but nice touch, as my others stands place the headphone as it would be worn.
I currently have it right next to me at my gaming pc/audio station. While my AKG 7XX sits on an Omega stand, any other set that I currently wish to use goes right on the Truss within arm’s length. It’s incredibly convenient and hidden away, saving me some desk space in the process.
Installation is very simple. Attach one end of the 3M adhesive to the Truss, and stick the Truss underneath the area you desire to hang it from. That’s it.
I had no idea the Truss even existed, nor did I think I would ever need something like this. I’ve had the Brainwavz Quartz for a while which I really like, but the Truss is a must have item for someone needing both space and quick access to their headphones. Its price is modest as well, considering you’re getting a fully metal piece.
Simple, strong, modern, and a great idea.
I’d like to thank Brainwavz for providing me with the sample, along with providing nice affordable stands to the audio community.

Pros: All metal design makes the hanger very solid. Can hang two pairs of headphones or one pair with cable.
Cons: Narrow design results in headphones banging together, unless they are both Grados or similarly small.
Brainwavz sent me this hanger along with two others and to what seems to be other people as well.
Like their other hangers, the Truss is an all-metal design, making it nice and sturdy. It attaches using some serious 3M VHB tape. This is not the kind of thing you want to stick on the forehead of your passed-out friend in a moment of drunken inspiration, as having them wake up with a double-sided headphone hanger would be hilarious for all of a couple of minutes until someone had to get the thing off.
However, such serious tape is needed to have have the headphones accidentally drop on your foot because the tape gave way. Similarly, the Truss is hooked on the ends, which prevents the headphones sliding off easily and makes hanging a coiled cable alongside your cans, either before or after hanging them, fairly straight-forward.
The headband of your headphones sits on a slightly curved metal plate, secured with two screws, which does the job nicely. What doesn't do so well is hanging two pairs on the hanger, as while Brainwavz seems to have considered headband width, headphone size obviously was not and full-sized headphones will inevitably bang together if two pairs are hung.
However, if you have one pair of headphones with a chunky cable, one side of the Truss can be used as a place for the cable coil.  The plates can be unscrewed with a hex key so removing one would make for a great under-desk hanger for high-end headphones.

Not the neatest example, but you get the idea. I was going to knock half-a-star more off than I did, but considering what could be created with one plate removed, I've added it back.  Given the low price, with a deep enough desk, a row of them stuck under would make for a neat, out-of-the-way hanging system. If I hadn't already done something like this under my desk already with other hooks, I'd seriously consider it.
Now since I have the thing, I have to decide where to stick it.

Interesting Fact about the name Truss

Truss derives from the Old French word trousse, from around 1200, which means "collection of things bound together".The term truss has often been used to describe any assembly of members such as a cruck frame or couple of rafters but often means the engineering sense of "A truss is a single plane framework of individual structural member connected at their ends of forms a series of triangle to span a large distance."

IMHO - suitable name for a headphone hanger and not a made up name - source from Wikipedia Truss

The Truss comes in very compact plastic packaging showcasing the item very well. Tastefully done and look more expensive than the price it is selling for.

Built Quality, Design & Functionality

Material is all ALL METAL and the built quality is numero uno with every details meticulously made with masterclass workmanship. Sleek looking and extremely durable.

Word of warning - please install them as soon as you get them as this could be classified as a weapon if ever you and the other half or partner get into a tiff ..LOL...especially when you spend too much time on headfi or buy too many Headphone or IEM !

Installation is easy and very suitable for those who need space saving feature under the table/desk and holds TWO headphone - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. No screw or drilling required and the 3M VHB pad provided will do the trick.

Installation instruction :

1) Find any under table or desk surface

2) Clean the surface and make sure the placement is correct before peeling the protective layer of the 3M tape. The tape is thick and look like it will last and will take some effort to peel them off. Best to use a pencil to draw the outline of the tape before sticking.

3) Press the Truss in pencil drawn outline and applied some pressure and count 1 to 4 or to 100 if you really have nothing to do and want to kill time - take your hand off and its done.
