BGVP DX6: An ear opener and a breath of fresh ear (Yes, puns intended. )

Here is my review/impressions for the BGVP DX6

Disclaimers:
• I don't consider myself as an audiophile nor a professional reviewer, I just do this for leisure.
• My impressions will be short, but i will try my best to describe how an iem sounds with simpler terms so even regular consumers/casual listeners can keep up.
• This is a review/tour unit, no rewards of any kind was or will be involved. Rest assured, I will provide my insights based from what i hear.
• Your preference and mileage may and/or will always vary from mine, so take my findings with a grain of salt, but not too much that you'll be salty. It all boils down to your preference anyway. So, trust your ears.
• As this hobby is subjective whether we admit it or not, this is my personal take and review, based on my actual auditioning. Therefore, testing/auditioning a product should always be your deciding factor.

Box/Package Inclusions:
• Earbuds and MMCX modular cable (2.5/3.5/4.4 terminations).
• 5 pairs of foam tips, 1 pair of detachable earhooks, 1 cable clip.
• A very nice and spacious leather carrying case

Source/setup:
• Sony NW-A55 (MrWalkman's Walkman One FW mod: WM1Z stock tuning on normal mode and direct source on)
• Purposely did not used the foam tips included for sanitary reasons, since this is a tour unit.
• Volume level 65 which is higher compared to my normal listening level on IEMs at around 40-50, given that flathead buds do not provide you with isolations like IEMs do.

Staple tracks used for testing per my preference (tracks after were all at random/shuffle):
• Leave the door open - Silk Sonic
• Wonderful tonight - Babyface
• Broken heart of gold (acoustic) - One OK Rock
• Gravity - Jason Chen
• Provide - G-eazy ft. Chris Brown
• Talk Shows on Mute - Incubus

Impressions/comments:
• Packaging - The box is quite big for a small earbud like this, but I'm glad they've been generous enough on the accessories.
• Lows/bass - Being used to warmish and This earbud's lower frequencies are alright for me, I wouldn't say it's a total lackluster 'coz its punchiness is present when it needs to be, just not how much I've been used to with my IEMs, but the subbass could've been better if its rumble is as present as the midbass.
• Mids/vocals - DX6's mids are, for me, the star of the show. This earbud's vocals are really forward and shine above the highs and the lows and both the male and female vocals really sound good to me, a refreshing taste of a different flavor or sound signature from my usual warmish/U-shaped/balanced preference. No shoutiness/harshness encountered on tracks played.
• Highs/treble - The cymbals have a good splashing sound on 'em. I just find it quite fast decaying in comparison to IEMs. I wish it has that lingering resonance of its splashes but thank goodness, they still sounded natural to me.
• Other details (tonality, staging, etc.) - I deem this set a midcentric set due to its Soundstage is wide and more realistic as opposed to that "pseudo" wide staging experience on some of the IEMs that I've previously auditioned.

Pros:
• Durable, well-designed shell and the paint job looks like it would not be chipping off. Really loved BGVP's ambigram-like logo which does not look awkward whether you wear it over the ear or like the usual old school earbuds.
• Mids are forward and has a substantial weight and clarity.
• No harshness/sibilance encountered.
• Overall, very nicely tuned set. A very refreshing, ear opening experience, making me appreciate the wide staging.
• An affordable flagship level earbud, versatile on both the aesthetics and the sound performance.

Cons (not really cons, but nitpicks):
• The bass could've been tweaked to have more presence, especially the subbass.

Comparisons:
Vs. NICEHCK EB2S - DX6 is definitely a midcentric bud as opposed EB2S juggles on being a midcentric or warmish balanced set due to its bass presence. Also, I find DX6 easier to drive eventhough they are of the same impedance at 32ohms.

Conclusions:
• Overall, this pair of earbud hits the right spot on being a very enjoyable set from an IEM lover's point of view, which easily makes it highly recommended to people who prefer flathead buds over IEMs and IEM junkies who are looking for some refreshing listening experience.
• Fit is good and does not easilyy fall off even when I shake my head.
• Synergizes very well on my source/setup, and a great affordable all-rounder set.

It's been a while since I reviewed earbuds and they still don't fail to impress me despite having a few issues in isolation. Ever since my review expanded, I have focused mostly on reviewing in-ear-monitors. Today, we are going to review BGVP DX6. The DX models feature BGVPs earbud lineup, and the DX6 is their latest iteration.

The BGVP DX6 is a 14.2mm dynamic driver with an LCP composite diaphragm MMCX earbud housed in an aluminum shell. The LCP diaphragm has been very popular lately and has been used by several models released this year, such as the Tin T3+, Astrotec Vesna, and the Moondrop Aria. It is very lightweight and comfortable, robust, and I personally wear it over my ear as I do with in-ear-monitors for a better fit.

PACKAGING​

The whole package is the bomb! very nice, with a plethora of inclusions inside the box:

The BGVP DX6 can be driven on a smartphone but demands more power. If I had an amplifier to test this, I believe it could do so much more. The DX6 has a midcentric nature, and I honestly love midcentric earbuds. Due to its bad isolation, it makes up for it with great, natural vocals, soundstage, and details.

LOWS : The lows somehow focus more on midbass than the sub-bass. It doesn't have that earthy and rumbling sub-bass, it doesn't reach that deep and primarily focuses on the mid-bass. Mid bass has sufficient punch and slam just to make sure this pair doesn't lack dynamics in the lower region. Of course, bassheads won't prefer this set.

MIDS : The star of the show. Vocals sound natural and have great texture. At higher volumes, the upper mids may sound harsh, which is to be wary of but is not a cause for concern.

HIGHS : Highs are crisp, airy, and have great details. It may sound fatiguing at some points, but is tolerable to some extent. I managed to listen to this pair for more than 2 hours with a short interval of rest.

SOUNDSTAGE AND IMAGING : The soundstage is spacious, has an above-average depth. It has amazing layering; instruments and vocals are easy to pinpoint and have great separation. This is what separates an earbud from an IEM when it comes to overall technicalities, and I somehow missed this level of detail and resolution. I am not saying IEMs are lacking in resolution and technicalities, but IEMs within or below this price range are hard to come by.

FINAL RATING​

To conclude this review, this is a great option for those who want to look for a flexible, robust, and astounding pair of earbuds. For $89, I wouldn't hesitate to buy these pair. If you are looking for an ultra light and comfortable midcentric earbud, then I highly suggest considering the BGVP DX6 for your next purchase.

BGVP is new to the Chi-Fi scene and is now back with a new iteration of their flagship DX line of earbuds with their newest flagship properly named as the BGVP DX6, priced at a competitive $89.

||𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠||

The Box offers a pretty nice. The outside shows an illustration of the earbuds themselves and opening the box reveals the beautiful presentation of the earbuds.

I was quite surprised at how big the box is, especially for the price. Other IEMs of the same price I’ve tried can't compare who much this package has.



|| 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 ||

The earbuds themselves are made out of nicely polished light-weight aluminum alloy carrying a 14.2mm dynamic driver with LCP composite diaphragm. Which is the same diaphragm that is used by the likes of the ever so popular Moondrop Aria, Dunu Titan S and the Tin T3+.



|| 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 ||

It comes with plenty of accessories and a pretty nice 6N OCC silver-plated hybrid cable with a swappable with a modular termination plug that can be converted to 2.5mm, 3.5mm and 4.4mm jacks included in the box.

Other accessories are a pretty nifty faux leather case that fits the earbuds along with other accessories, a handful of earbud foams, a shirt clip, and a cable hook mold/guide, allowing you to use the earbuds over-ear style more easily.

|| 𝐅𝐢𝐭 ||

These fit very well to my ear and did not require me to use earbud foams. This is anecdotal as everyone of use has different ears.

|| 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐬 ||

Lows on this set lean more on mid bass than sub bass. I find the sub bass quite lacking but overall very punchy and has body. I like the bass on this despite the not so extended sub bass extension. It doesn’t smear over other frequencies. Earbuds typically suffer on this aspect compared to their IEM counterparts, but this one is different.

I’ve tried multiple earbuds both custom and off-the-shelf, and this one is one of the two earbud options I find to have very good bass for my liking. However bass head might want to try them out before pulling the trigger as this can be insufficient to someone.

|| 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐬 ||

This is where this set excels. This particular set is a mid-centric set in my ears. Vocals and instruments sound natural and clean. However one might still find this sibilant especially at high volumes. I find myself playing more classical and vocal oriented songs. They sound rich, warm and have body.

|| 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐬 ||

Highs on these sound clean however some of the songs I’ve tried on these had some splashiness. Wind instruments have air and generally have a slither of sparkle. One can still find this fatiguing. Details are very good to the point I’ve noticed things on some songs that I didn't even know were present.

|| 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 ||

Staging on these are a given, they are of course quite spacious because of their somewhat open-nature. I want it to be wider than taller but still more spacious than IEMs. Imaging is precise. You can easily pin-point source of sound such as instruments pretty well. Layering is great, each source of sound has their one place and is not spilling over others.

|| 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 ||

This is one hell of an earbud, especially this being an off-the-shelf option. This is a great set for people looking for a mid-centric audio gear with very nice details and technicalities( I might even get one for myself). I like these more than most of the IEMs I’ve tried, even those that go over $100. Earbuds are a great value and offer a very unique experience.

The BGVP DX6 comes in a nice package and has a lot of premium accessories.

I have a few flat styles, but they are not my most used items. I find many times the lack of seal and fit are not for me. The 1more dual, and MoonDrop Liebesleid have been my most expensive and premium so far, the complex design of the DX6 with is suburb not only in good looks but in functionality. the interchangeable cable and swapable plugs are what sets this apart in my opinion. The case, and cable are top notch quality.

Sound:
The DX6 improves vastly on the DX5, in terms of sound quality it is less bright and Mids still have good focus.

Bass; As one would expect from flat style. Sub-Bass is just there in the background it has presence but little impact. Mid Bass however is more impactful and presents neutral and detailed. On the ifi GoBar with Xbass on its really sounds pleasant.

Mids: have an organic sound with good details, instruments are decent with wind instruments sounding better than stringed ones, vocals are natural sounding and forward with some warmth and richness.

Treble: Has a good sparkle, airiness and details with a little brightness up top but so much as to be harsh. The treble has good energy overall but can be dark or bright depending on the recording.

Soundstage: Has a wide and open presentation, it has excellent details and separation making these very enjoyable for classical music as well as most music.

Conclusion:
The DX6 is a great flagship at a reasonable price. it outperforms most flat buds I've used that are 3X as much. I think lovers of the Flat style will be very happy with this.
