Audio-Technica ATH-WS1100iS

General Information

With newly designed drivers and in-line mic and control, the ATH-WS1100iS Solid Bass over-ear headphones give you portable, smartphone-compatible headphones with Hi-Res Audio reproduction and truly deep bass. The 53 mm Deep Motion Drivers, designed exclusively for the ATH-WS1100iS, feature an ultra-powerful magnetic circuit that works to deliver highly accurate audio with a wide frequency response, while the large diaphragm surface area of the drivers causes considerable air movement, helping to produce a rich, textured bass sound.

The rigid housings of the ATH-WS1100iS, which incorporate Audio-Technica’s new Extra Bass Venting System, also contribute to the headphones’ audio clarity. Each housing features an aluminum stabilizer ring that helps produce clear mid-to-high frequencies. Vents, including extra side vents not found in other models that utilize the Bass Venting System, are positioned for optimal control of air movement inside the housings, aiding in the reproduction of high-fidelity bass sound. Exclusive dual-layer earpads, comprised of a firm internal layer and a soft outer layer, provide excellent sound isolation with amazing comfort.

The detachable 1.2 m (3. 9') cable includes an in-line mic and control that lets you answer calls and handle media playback on your smartphone or other portable device. A convenient carrying pouch is also included.

New Head-Fier
Pros: Good sound reproduction
Comfortable
Durable/good build quality
Cons: Needs equalizer
Needs a bit of padding inside to soften high frequencies
Ive had these for about 3months now. They work best when used with an eq. Im using viper4android and boy the app does bring this headphone alive. The bass reproduction can be felt and goes really hard and deep without affecting much of the rest of the other frequencies. Good set, i love em

Pros: -on sale
-very clear
-detachable 3.5 mm cable
-big ear pads
-wide sound
Cons: -i dont recommend because ive seen too many amazon reviews saying the plastic will break.
-you will need 5 to 10db to bass boost them; ordinary mp3 player wont be sufficient
-creaks a little while walking
-rare sibilance
-could have more padding on top of head
-headband leather will flake so you need to buy a cover
i am not an expert.

not recommended anymore as ive seen too many amazon reviews saying the plastic will break.

so i bought these as bass headphones. i woulda got the xb950s but they have durability issues. ditto for the skullcandy crushers and im not sure if the bass is consistent on those either. these seem to be more reliable than the v moda m100, and they were on sale for $130.

these are only bass headphones if you bass boost them. i usually listen to them with a 6db bass boost from my amp, plus the bass turned up all the way on my mp3 player.

they sound very clear. i compared them to the panasonic rp hd10 and ws1100is sounds sharper and have more bass. but the speaker doesnt look as nice as the panasonic does, and ws1100is feels heavier. the panasonic sounds more like the sonys if that makes sense. if your listening to an audio file with too much treble then these will have sibilance. id say rarely they have sibilance.

they are comforable but after a while i can feel it on top of my head. its not bad, but it think its maybe the weight.

they have 3.5 mm detachable cord so its easily swappable.

i listen not quiet, not loud at the library and no one complains. i can hear cars out side when walking, but less than i could with my open hd500s.

they creak a little when walking.

they have big ear pads and the sound is wide; maybe comparable to my open hd500

Pros: Great for hip-hop, electronica, dubstep, Probably the most comfortable around ear headphone ever
Cons: Bloomy bass that overwhelms, can make some music sound very bad
I am surprised. Audio-technica. Probably the best looking headphones ever. Probably the most comfortable headphones ever. Probably the biggest sound in a closed headphone. Bass resolution and impact is crazy good.

Very very verryyyyyy comfortable. My big elephant ears don't touch pads -reminds me of a big Sennheiser but even better pads. These are like the Sony XB series had sex with the M50x. The headband extends smoothly, almost automatically like the automatic doors of a Tesla. Hard to find weaknesses to these complete headphones most other headphones are car parts like the tin man without a heart.

Bassheads don't read further. These are already for you. Go now. Buy. Right now.

Okay now that they're gone...Audio-techncia...you bastards crippled my treble and mids! I didn't expect the great "Audio-technica" brand to have bloomy bass. Don't get me wrong these sound GREAT for hip-hop/electronic music hence the "solid bass" moniker. But audio-technica you were so close to something bigger... I expected something revolutionary; a great headphone. The next M50's... the M500's. The highs are are there they are crisp and clear but they are about 2 floors down from the bass. The mids you can barely tell they are there -they are about 4 floors down. At this point the frequency graph looks like the bitcoin market history graph, in reverse.

If only these had that balanced M50x treble it would be game over. Audio-technica do me a favor -Tune these 53mm drivers to the same balance as the M50x's 45mm drivers and put it in this design with these pads, (why isn't everyone using these pads for around ear by the way?), and you have a MENACE of a headphone.

These may be moddable to control the bloom in the bass and bring up the treble about 1 floor because they have several ports on the back of the cups(around and in the middle of the cups), if you cover the middle parts with your hands you will notice a clear improvement, but modding these would be like destroying a piece of art, like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Audio-technica....just go back and do it again. Call them Audio-technica WS2200iS with Solid Treble and Solid Bass.
