It is a basic model with lot of plastic parts but well built feeling. Thanks to the nice ear-pads and the light weight, it is comfortable up to an hour. For a longer period without a break, the clamping force is too high, the headband is not padded and your ears will be warm as many other closed back on-ear headphones.
The sound is well balanced with stiff bass, pleasant mid tones and enjoyable high frequencies.This is true with active noise-cancelling. Without NC the sound is mushier and less fun. Othervise the active noise-cancelling is very effective in it. Against the monotonous lower frequencie noises, you do not need turn up the volume too high in a noisy enviroment.
The ANC1 is directly driven with mobile phones or DAPs, not necessary the external amplifier. Of course if you use one, the drivers give you slightly punchier lows and crispier highs.
If you want a bigger soundstage, more details or you miss the sub bass frequencies, you will spend much more money for an active noise-canceling headphone, not like this.
The filigree (fragile) design and the non replacable cable are clear disadvantages, but i think this is a near perfect headphone for commuting.
