The Monoprice MP9927 PG 208.. MP8320 (MEP-933)..The $7.11 club..
Quote: No need to apologize, jaejw1! I've been following your posts with great interest, as I've been considering doing this myself. The little tips, such as keeping the flange tips in when you set them, as well as covering them with tape, are invaluable. Thanks! Keep the wisdom coming!- robbneu

The Monoprice MP9927 PG 208.. MP8320 (MEP-933)..The $7.11 club..
Quote: Thanks, BP! I just tried cutting my bi-flange tips back, under less than ideal circumstances (sitting at my desk with a pair of old scissors), and the results were great! They don't look very good, given that I can't cut in a straight line for some reason, but the sound does seem...- robbneu

Quote: Thanks, Bloody Penguin. I saw your post earlier, but forgot about it when I posted my little update. I might try this fairly soon, especially since I got so many bi-flange tips from that Chinese site. If I'm not crazy about the result, I can always just swap them out with a...- robbneu

Just a couple of updates regarding my experiences with the 8320s, in case anyone is interested. Oh, heck, who am I kidding? This is the internet. You're ALL interested in what I have to say, right? Anyway, EventVista posted about some tips he found on Amazon called "Squish Tips." I...- robbneu

I just got my 8320s yesterday via an order directly from Monoprice. The sound, with only a few hours of burn in, is pretty impressive. I don't think they're as smooth as my Nu-Force IEMs, but the soundstage is already nice. What I'm hearing now seems a little harsh and fatiguing, so I'm...- robbneu

Recommendations wanted: Commuter Cans?
Thanks for your input, guys. Shortly after I posted my question, I stumbled across a similar post and saw the AKGs being recommended there, too. They're a little over what I'd like to spend, but I'll definitely check them out. It sounds like they're the new "darlings" of the forum, so I need to...- robbneu

Recommendations wanted: Commuter Cans?
Several days a week I ride the bus into work and I want to get some new headphones for my commute. Here's where I'm coming from... I'm a big fan of Grado headphones and will likely be getting either the SR225 or SR325i next month to upgrade from my low-end SR60s. Usually what I use on the go is...- robbneu

Best portable amp for Grados?
Sam, You can get very good performance out of a "entry-level" C-Moy that will really compliment your Grados. I've built a number of C-Moys, using Tangent's instructions, and have been very pleased with the sound, although I'm starting to hear the murkiness of the OPA2132PA amp and will be...- robbneu

Larger Caps in C-Moys
Fresno Bob... Thanks for the tip. I think I'll just go with new parts, as my goal is to build a few C-Moys to give out as gifts. Scrounging a couple of capacitors for one amp is possible, but tracking down ten or twelve isn't really very practical. Mono... Thanks for further clarifying the...- robbneu

Larger Caps in C-Moys
Steve... ahh, so your preference for the FM series caps is really just a cosmetic thing? That's actually good news, because its one *less* thing I need to worry about. Fresno Bob... Well, you certainly have a headstart on me. I have a couple of jacks and maybe a switch or something, but need...- robbneu

Larger Caps in C-Moys
Thanks, guys! I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts and opinions on this. It sounds like there's a fairly strong consenus for at least .22 uf caps for the input and then 470 uf caps for power (with Steve's suggestion being for even larger caps). Mono's comments about decoupling is a...- robbneu

Larger Caps in C-Moys
I've mentioned in a few threads that I'm getting ready to build some new C-Moy amps. I've already built two C-Moys (and put together a number of circuit boards awaiting OPAMPs) using Tangent's recipe, and they turned out great. I'll be using the Serpac 9V case, like I had done with my original...- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread. Yesterday was a little manic. Snoopy... that's a really slick little circuit. Thanks! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), Drew and Nisbeth seem to have talked me out of the flashing light. I may try it anyway...- robbneu

How big of a difference do CMoy pocket amps make?
I think that the C-Moy is kind of seen as the "gateway drug" in this hobby and a lot of the posts hint at the fact that you'll only use it for a while, until you upgrade to something bigger and better. There are certainly better amps out there and many of them are quite affordable, but I built...- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Tangent... Yes, it's clear... in a way. I find that most of this stuff makes perfect sense to me in a sort of philosophical, abstract way, but I have a slight disconnect that I need to overcome in moving that abstract understanding to real world situations. It's pretty clear, of course (it's...- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Nesbith... you're probably right in that I'm making this way too complicated. As I said, my goal was to put together a handful of similar C-Moys to give out as gifts. I thought I'd go with the C-Moy because I've already built a few of them and because... they're simple. Keeping with that simple...- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Just did a Google search on the "lm3909." Thanks! It looks like it would just provide a flashing light, which might be neat, but I'll likely run into issues regarding the proper voltages, as Tangent pointed out. Most of the sample circuits I've looked at require 1.5V to power the flasher. Robb- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Wyloch, Skyskraper, and Tangent... thanks for your posts. I appreciate your ideas. Skyskraper... what's a "lm3909?" So, if I manage to build a little circuit like the one Tangent is describing, and put it in line to the headphones output, as Wylock and Skyskraper suggest, would I need to...- robbneu

Obnoxious flashing LEDs in a C-Moy
Good morning... I'm getting ready to build some simple C-Moys as gifts for a few of my family and friends. Nothing too fancy... likely just a "stock" Tangent version of the circuit and maybe a simple cross-over (switchable, if I can squeeze it all in). My plan was to use one of the...- robbneu

yet another CMOY QUESTIONS thread
Raif, I actually used some double-sided foam tape to "anchor" my free-floating boards in the Serpac cases (I think they're Serpac) I've used. Having stuff bump around inside the box made me a little nervous, so this seemed like a quick, easy solution. Good luck! Robb- robbneu
