Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ya. Even though this is a headphone enthusiast site, there are a handful of us who are really into 2-channel gear. I actually do have a Saga on order with the Vidar, and yes, that can be used to add that bit of tube sound. A hybrid style amp would just be cool and fun to play with. It...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Heck, a hybrid amp with LISST tubes as an option would be kinda cool too. But before we get to that, I'd like the backlog on Vidar orders to get cleared out. I hate waiting.

    Schiit Two Channel Clubhouse

I ordered a Saga and Vidar today. I already have a Bifrost (older model, I will eventually have it upgraded). The order status kinda made me laugh: (Vidar is on backorder) These will be used with my Revel M105s. I also intend to eventually add a subwoofer.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

That photo got me thinking... what's the largest Schiit stack that you could do with the Modi-sized chassis now? Throw in a Mani, SYS, Eitr, and for entertainment, a couple of Wyrds... I'm not saying it should be done, but it would be funny to see it. As to EQ, I say good! Those of us who...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If you saw an Aztek on the road today, you wouldn't even notice it. It was ugly, yes, and it had its issues, but a lot of the design was very forward-looking. It share an overall shape that isn't out of place among today's CUVs.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

None of the headphone amps have used a modular design. Everything gets shoved onto a single board. This is likely due to a mix of cost effectiveness, thermal requirements, and wanting to make things fit into the form factor. Ragnarok uses a modular design with at least 2 daughterboards, which...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Given the redesign and improved thermals, is there any chance that you would ultimately recommend using the Vidar's monoblock configuration with 4-ohm speakers? This might just be me, but if I have a balanced source and a balanced preamp, I want to run the amps balanced as well. Even if the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ouch.   I know it's cost-effective, and that's why they went with the small remote, but man, I will lose that thing within 15 minutes.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm very happy that we're getting a remote, because I won't buy a preamp that doesn't have one.   But he did say to mention if we would be willing to pay for a better quality remote.  Presumably it would be offered separately, or as an upgrade, and wouldn't affect people who are fine with...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Well, put me firmly in the "would pay for a better quality remote."   Especially if it's heavy.  The heavy remotes never seem to get lost.  The light ones always end up inside the couch, or the refrigerator, or in other odd places.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The show has been open to the public for 11 minutes now.  Where's the info?  Come on, people!   Seriously, though, I wish I had been able to attend this year.  New gear is fun.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm anxiously awaiting pictures.   $1400 for a balanced pre-amp with a selectable input stage and 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms.  That is a stupidly good deal in today's market.   Mix it with a Gungnir (non multi-bit) and you're still under $2500.   Use the amps in mono and mix it...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This is an "on" year for me to attend RMAF (I go every other year, typically), and this has me excited. Nothing better than seeing new gear that I can actually afford.

LISST-compatible hybrid pre and power amps, of course.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

PS Audio tried something at RMAF last year that almost worked.  They had their 2-channel electronics in the main room of a Junior Suite while the Sprout was being used for a separate headphone system in the suite's bedroom.   I say tried, though, because apparently most people didn't...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

With the current trend in phone sizing, this leaves a LOT of leeway.   What bells and whistles do you think a preamp needs? My ideal would be easy: 3 balanced inputs, 2 balanced outputs (for easy subwoofer integration), a gain switch and a remote volume/mute control. Easy to fit within the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Background: I'm not a big headphone user.  I use them while working or at the computer to avoid disturbing others, but nearly all of my serious listening is done on a traditional 2-channel system.   Jason, we met at RMAF last year.  It was the first day, and I told you that you didn't look as...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

You can wind up hypothermic on a fairly "warm" day if there is enough of a wind. As someone who lives in Northern Utah and never wears more than a T-Shirt and a light fleece because I produce so much body heat, I can't stand to leave my hands uncovered in the winter. Fingers freeze easily.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My guess? It was this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/13/technology/personaltech/a-sound-system-as-resonant-a-concert-hall-tool-kit.html?_r=0 Based on the time frame in the last segment, it makes the most sense. It's how I first heard about Schiit. And I can see how a mention in the...
