2013 Bay Area Headphone Meet & Headmasters (CAS4) Impressions Thread (8/9~8/11)
I made it to the show and enjoyed the meet. I could only stay a short time but I really enjoyed the Headmasters room. I arrived early and the opportunities for sampling a wide range of products, without pressure, were great. Exhibitors and fellow attendees (not that many women were at the...- Grelkman

HEADPHONE MEET at the Headmaster in San Francisco 8/10/2013
I'm very excited about the Headmaster meet. I've attended California Audio Show every year but have only stayed a couple of hours. But the headphone meet sounds great as I haven't been to one before. Based on comments here, I may not make it to the rest of the show!- Grelkman

Sennheiser HD 600 $130 ?
Just bought refurbished HD600s from Dakmart. Everything went well, though I've read differing accounts regarding this vendor. Price was a little over $200, plus shipping and the phones look brand new. Amazon now charges $400 for the HD600s, up substantially from a few weeks ago.- Grelkman

Etymotic ER-4PT
I love the ER4-Ps and was considering a backup pair. But the real selling price has gone up $140 since the last time I bought and it appears that the company wants retailers to sell at full list price. I don't think that retailers are adding an extra $140 of value for what they are doing...- Grelkman

Is this verbiage even legally binding?
It's somewhat common language used by organizations sponsoring events and wishing to avoid liability. But that doesn't make it acceptable. Why should you bear the risk if the other party fails to exercise the appropriate standard of care? See what kind of response you get if you request the...- Grelkman

lost two pairs of ER-4P in last 4 months
You're definitely not alone. I'm on my third pair and if I lose this I'll probably buy another. (But not from Amazon. The price there has shot up from $160 to $300.)- Grelkman

SR-60's failed - Considering AD700's?
Consider fixing your SR-60s. So long as the driver has not failed, it's easy. The earpieces can be opened up after warming the glue with a hot hair dryer. (Proceed with caution when you are working with heat!) It's really common for the cable inside to become intermittent or disconnected. I...- Grelkman

Superb customer service from Grado!
Yes, Grado service is terrific. If you are not in the U.S. you should insist on full service from the local Grado agent. It's not like these are deeply discounted products.- Grelkman

ER4P finally bit the dust -- what now?
Another vote for getting the ER4P fixed. I'm on my third pair, but only because I lost the first two! The repair cost will be reasonable, and you can still research other products.- Grelkman

Anyone prefer sr-60s over sr-225s?
I've got both models. The SR-225 is definitely better than the SR-60. The sound is more refined, with more detailed and extended highs . The SR-60 is still pretty darn good. Unfortunately my set went out in one channel and I need to send it back for service. Grado has always been a pleasure to...- Grelkman

ETYMŌTIC IEM Owners Headcount - Are you one?
I have purchased three sets of ER-4Ps in the past four years. Currently I use the all-black version. The first two ER-4Ps (blue and red) were great but I lost them! You could call me a fanboy -- each time I decided to replace the lost model with another ER-4P. The original set cost $230, the...- Grelkman

For all the burn-in skeptics
I respect the observations of the original poster but I have some concerns about the conclusion regarding burn-in. This test did not eliminate all of the variables. Did both phones sound the same before burn-in? Was the new sample performing up to spec? Did the new sample sound better (or...- Grelkman

Experience with Dell Outlet - Dell DJ??
Good question. However, the price of the outlet models is not much lower than price of the new models. It's a personal decision, but If I were buying I'd pay the extra few dollars.- Grelkman

Rio Karma - should I take the plunge?
Earwax raises a great point. How are these companies able to repair your unit? Does Rio sell them parts, boards, subassemblies, or refurbished models? I haven't seen this discussed by anyone who has recommended these warrantees. I'm not knocking the warranty companies; I'm just curious about the...- Grelkman

need some help buying a cd player
I'm recently interested in the Sony D-FJ401 model. Can anyone tell me if this model is any good? I've got one and half used it heavily for the past year. I think its a good unit. How's the radio reception? does it have stereo sound? Yes it is stereo. Almost all built-in stereos are...- Grelkman

Which current CDPs have true line outs?
I just returned from the local Goodguys after looking at the current selection of CDPs. I didn't find any models with true line outs. I know that the Sony D-EJ2000 and a couple of other Sony models still have line outs. Are there any other manufacturers that still include this important feature...- Grelkman

The build quality is not impressive. But I've bought SR-60s and SR-255s and I'm happy with both. I have the 60s for at least five years. Plus Grado service is top notch.- Grelkman
