Looking for IEMs for iPhone recommendations

I just got the Etymotic HF3 for my iPhone5. For $90 ebay price (as low as $60 see cowboom) they're great with the classic Ety detailed treble and less bass than some.   I have several other IEM/earbuds including the original Klipsch Image that became the X10i.   My only "complaint" about...

Can you recommend some earbuds in the $150 range?

"feel raunchy guitar riffs and groovy hip-hop beats"   IEMS but I would definitely consider Future Sonics Atrio MG7 for this ...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Hey all, Been listening to my LD III with DT880s awhile and thought I'd throw out my experiences. First off, I did the 120 ohm mod. It's not *quite* as bad as some describe if you pull the board out the back. I kind of discovered this messing around but my method saves you having to deal...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Help! Can anyone post the pinout for the front volume switch? I finally did the 120 ohm resistor mod. 2 of the volume knob solder joints broke while I was fiddling with it which was fortuitous as maybe the easiest way to get the circuit board far enough out to reach the resistors is to...

Little dot in Europe + Alternatives for K601

LD III and DT880 is a good combo, I think you will have a lot of fun with a K701 through the LD III. Don't forget the amp will sound much better after a few hundred hours of burn in and replacing the stock driver tubes with the many better ones available. I agree that the LD III is worth the...

    DT880 mid recessed?

I like my '05 DT880 with Little Dot III. I guess the bass could be enough to cause the mids to sound a little recessed. EQ will take care of that if you really think it's a problem. LD3 does have an "immediate" soundstage rather than the big soundstage the DT880 is capable of, but other than...

Ibasso D1 with Little Dot MKIII

Have to say I have tried PC > USB > iBasso D2 > LD III and was disappointed with the sound. The combination was pretty much the worst of both.

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Yeah I wouldn't get real excited about the 6cg7 yet. They are good tubes obviously with Mcintosh and Marantz amps using them for many years but they are not drop in replacements for 6n6p, just close enough to almost work. It would be nice to get a review from people with the adapters using...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

I finally tried replacing the 6n6p power tubes with some 6cg7 tubes - which have the same pin layout and are supposed to be the closest Western equivalent. They were unexciting GE Jan brand with no shield plates. First off. They work! And they sounded ok for the brief time I listened with...

    Tubey Tube Amp?

You won't be surprised to find out that another way to get tubey-ness is to have a tube preamp feed a tube amp. This may seem silly at first but a magic combo of not so expensive preamp and amp can sometimes sound much better than either seperately. I can confirm that iBasso D2 (op amp portable)...

i'm looking for an AAC compatible mp3 player (which is cheap)

Yeah Zen not gapless. I guess it's a pain to code which is why so few players have it. I didn't think all Rockbox options had gapless? My 8GB Zen looks and sounds good and has been reliable other than it freezes occasionally and I have to go through the 20 sec routine of doing the directory...

    Solid state vs. Tubes

I would be hard pressed to say which I like better. Sometimes I love the tube warmth and sometimes it kind of bothers me. On the other hand I've heard SS amps that I would swear were tube. The tube experience does somehow enhance late night listening. If op amps and transistors glowed that would...

    Little Dot MKIII and Grados

LD Mk III is certainly a nice entry level tube amp for the cost and has no problem at all with low impedance IEMs at least to ~30 ohm. I really think it would be fine with any low impedance phones. It works well enough as a preamp but there's a lot more competition around that price for tube...

Zen does AAC just fine, only Apple though - no Nero.

PC --> AMP (little dot mk-III)

I'm currently using a cable just like that for X-fi -> Little Dot III. You can get better sound using optical -> DAC -> Little Dot (see Penchum's Zero review) or a good USB DAC. I have been playing around with using my iBasso D2 as a DAC/preamp for the Little Dot III. The X-fi line out sounds...

    Meier Audio return policy

I bought a Headsix and returned it for refund when the aluminium rails that hold the screws for the front plate were stripped and the back AC/DC socket didn't line up with the hole. Jan returned the full amount I paid and has been responsive and easy to deal with. I have to say for one guy...

Where can i buy Ethanol in England? (to clean my portable amp)

I couldn't help but laugh. The answer is, "Where can't you buy ethanol in England?" And yes, rubbing alcohol = isopropanol = isopropyl alcohol is generally recommended for cleaning electronics. Less chance it will dissolve something important than with other solvents. If you really...

    Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling

Again I'm not really a tube expert but the whole Philips/Amperex/Mullard/Sylvania etc. conglomerate was a mess with factories making each others' designs. Mullard made tubes that were sold under all kinds of brand names. Also communist Russia and China copied Western tubes including Mullards.

    Klipsch Image IEMs ongoing review

The standard Atrio fat foamies can be "persuaded" on Images pretty easily. I also had no problem getting medium Shure olives on. I haven't tried the fat Shure foamies - sorry if that wasn't clear. I can't for the life of me remember what size Complys I tried but the rounded tip foams in general...

    Klipsch IMAGE earphone review

When I use an amp with mine it's either a Little Dot III (tubes) or iBasso D2. They sound warm and tubey with the LD3 heh. They sound great through the D2 also though, with a little tamer treble and bigger soundstage. They did not sound good at all through the Corda Headsix when I had that however.

    Atrio M5 Tips

I didn't like the stock biflanges and after trying lots of tips including various Shure settled on the Atrio foamies as a last resort. Then awhile later I tried the biflanges again, go figure they fit perfectly and they're what I use now. Not sure I have any great advice but Atrios are...
