Portable 'phones, looking for reccomendations
Try HD 25's. I use PX100's and e4c's for portable. My son got a pair of HD 25's last December. They are a definite upgrade to the PX100's and work well as portables because of rugged construction- noddyisking

Looking for rugged, closed can, over ear, folding, quality headphones for listening to hip hop on ipod w/o amp.
Look at the HD25's for stronger base and a more rugged design than the HD280's, although I personally like the sound from the HD280's direct from an iPod. I use the Corda Headsix amp, mainly with Shure e4c's. I've tried it with both the HD25's and 280's and it improves the sound through both- noddyisking

iMac: Difference in USB vs Digital Out? Firewire?
I use USB out to an external DAC from an iMac. When I was researching the subject about six months ago, the general consensus was that the differences were marginal and that you also needed to understand how the DAC processed the signal. My interpretation of the views, reviews and comparisons...- noddyisking

Heeeelllp! The Usual Suspects Plus...!!
I did a lot of research on this last November/December and ended up going for for the Paradisea+ DAC from Mhdt Labs. There are lots of threads and reviews on various sites. However, if you are now buying a DAC and headphone amp you should consider the combined units from Meier-Audio, the Corda...- noddyisking

Heeeelllp! The Usual Suspects Plus...!!
I can't comment on your other options, but I recently bought an X-Can V3 and HD650's and have been very pleased with the results. I bought the X-Can used on eBay. There are usually one or two for sale in the UK at any time.- noddyisking

The HEADSIX, a Head-Fi support sales-action
DOUGHN, I use my Headsix with either E4c's or PX100's when mobile with an iPod 160GB Classic playing mostly Apple lossless. I was on a long coach trip over the last few days (with an u13 boys rugby team) and having seen your post beforehand, I tried to do a reasonable listening comparison...- noddyisking

The HEADSIX, a Head-Fi support sales-action
It started last October when my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I decided it would be nice to have a new pair of headphones for home use so that I could listen to music in my home office/music room which is off our bedroom without annoying my wife. So I started to research the...- noddyisking

Upgrading MM Cartridge and Phono Preamp
Thanks for all your help. I probably have the manual at home somewhere, but printing it out is easier than a trawl through boxes in the attic. I'll give the guys in Audio Note a call and look at costs and options on a new arm. Hope to get the turntable into Cloney tomorrow!!- noddyisking

Upgrading MM Cartridge and Phono Preamp
Spoke to the guy in Cloney Audio this morning. He is going to have a look at the turntable for me. Having thought about it long and hard again last night, I will probably just replace the cartridge at this point, see how much time I get to listen to vinyl, buy a few new LP's and think about a...- noddyisking

Send me suggestions
Also look at Meier Corda Cantate. It is highly recommended by a lot of members here. I bought a portable amp from Jan Meier and the advice provided and customer service was excellent, so don't worry about it coming from Germany- noddyisking

Send me suggestions
I use an iMac as source. You do need an external DAC which cab be obtained for anything from $50 to infinity. I have a Paradisea+ DAC and a Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 amp. I believe that there are some good DAC/headphone amp in one box solutions out there. From a Mac you will need to connect to...- noddyisking

Upgrading MM Cartridge and Phono Preamp
Thanks again to everyone for the advice and help. I know that I should really be looking at a tonearm upgrade, but, from what I can determine, there is no one in Ireland, North or South who would do the work for me and I would prefer to have it professionally fitted. So, I am 99% decided on a...- noddyisking

Upgrading MM Cartridge and Phono Preamp
Thanks for the help and advise folks. At this stage I don't really want to upgrade the TT or the arm, mainly because I can't see myself spending enough time listening to vinyl to justify it, much as I am tempted to acquire an LP12, now that I can afford one!! The budget of £150 is not absolute...- noddyisking

Upgrading MM Cartridge and Phono Preamp
I have recently bought a Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 and Senn HD650's to improve the quality and allow increased use of a setup I have in a small room/office off our bedroom. I now want to upgrade the vinyl source. Currently I have a Dunlop Systemdek II with a Linn Basik Plus tonearm and a Linn K9...- noddyisking

£50 to £60 pc speakers
I agree with the real speaker/amp route. However, if you don't have the space for this, I would recommend the Phillips MMS321's which can now be obtained for less than £40 - they used to cost almost twice as much. They are a two speaker system which I find is much better for music than a 2.1...
