Hydraulic Reference TT and SME 3009
Very cool. Thank you for the tips and thank you again Nightowl. As I mentioned I have a pair of Quad radio units (an FM3 and an AM3) and the Hydraulic Reference which were the three I was intending on using as my source. I also got offered a tape machine but thought I would have no use for...- NMB

Hydraulic Reference TT and SME 3009
Thank you so so much for all of that advice. Since putting up my post I have purchased a new drive belt (since it did not come with one) and the RCA conversation kit for the arm from a german site (Analog Tube Audio | Home) as the price I have been quoted by SME for the kit was an awful lot...- NMB

Hydraulic Reference TT and SME 3009
Hello all, I have never posted in this part of headfi but, I have recently been given some vintage hardware to look after and restore. This consisted of a Michell Hydraulic Reference turntable with SME 3009 pickup arm, a Quad 303 and Quad 33. I am not sure if anyone is familiar with any of...- NMB

Where can I get Custom IEM earmoulds in the UK?
Audio Relief - Understanding Tinnitus They are just round the back of Liverpool Street. I know a few people who have used them for mould work and have spoken very highly of them. I have only purchased ER20's from them but the service was faultless. Nicholas- NMB

Anyone used EX71s and Shures?
I used medium tips on the EX70/71's and the triple flange tips on the Shure's when I had them. Nicholas- NMB

256 VBR AAC vs 320 mp3 vs 256 vbr mp3
I've just realized after ripping 2200 CD's from my 3000 CD collection that 128 kbps AAC is not of a high enough quality. I've now upped it to 256 AAC but I am sure some of you can sympathy with what I am feeling now. Nicholas- NMB

Bang & Olufsen U70: K100 killer!
I've seen them regularly go for £70 ($140). Personally I'm not very keen on the U70, even though I am a big B&O fan. Nicholas- NMB

ideal IEM for mixing/mastering music?
I hate to recommend the same IEM's on every thread I reply to at the moment but Etymotics. ER6i's will fit your budget and I know plenty of producers and sessions artists who use them in the studio. If you can justify it go for some custom moulds as well. Nicholas- NMB

Looking for the ideal IEM for classical music
I would recommended the Ety's for the simple reason that, from my experience, their clinical, flat sound and accuracy lends itself to classical music. Nicholas- NMB

Sennheiser HD25's
I have been doing a bit of research on these and just had a couple of questions. Firstly how many different models are there? I under stand the whole SP and not SP thing, but on the HD25-1 I have seen a lot of models with different impedances, ranging from 60 ohms to 300 ohms. Also how have...- NMB

Recommendations on DJ Headphones
I would recommend HD25's. I got a pair recently for DJing and general use and I love them. They are an excellent all round performer and very durable. Nicholas- NMB

K701 or HD25 for DJing?
A friend just suggested DT100's actually. Do the DT100/150's pivot at the cup? If not, how comfortably do they sit off of the ear. I've seen a pair of 150's for about the same price as HD25's in the UK so it's definitely an option. Thank you for the suggestion. Nicholas- NMB

K701 or HD25 for DJing?
I'm a bit concerned with going back to Sony as I have had two pairs of V500 and both have broken. I was curious as to whether the HD25's would be a bit more durable. Sorry for including the K701. They are definitely not for the task in question. I should have done a bit more research. Nicholas- NMB

New Phones For Around £200 ($400)
Sorry yes the pair I was talking about are the ones that you picked up off eBay. They are a bit more than when I ordered them. Still an amazing deal for the UK. The E500's are identical to the SE530 but are only available with the PTH module. Otherwise they are exactly the same. Nicholas- NMB

Anyone in the UK got the UE11'S?
I know a couple of people in the UK with UE10's. They had them fitted and sorted out by a company in the UK called Handheld Audio (http://www.handheldaudio.co.uk/). They are quite a bit more expensive than they are in the US but I guess that's the price of peace of mind. Nicholas- NMB

Need a new pair of IEMs
The new Shure's are modular to some extent. They split off from the main length of cable at the y junction so you can chose the length of cable or if you want to use the microphone for the iPhone. I second the ER4P recommendation. The sound is beautifully flat. Nicholas- NMB

Asymetrical cable
I used to use some asymmetric cabled headphones for running with so the cabling didn't bounce around and hit me in the face. I then got so irritated with all the weight pulling on my left ear I switched to some y cable phones. Now I just run the y cable under my shirt and it solves the...- NMB

My IEMs are now actually being used as IEMs. Some ?'s
For the sake of a pair of tips, I would cut a line down one side, parallel with the tube of the tip, and remove a section of the flanges. Maybe 45 degrees worth if you were to long at the tip end on. This will allow some background noise in and reduce the isolation. Nicholas- NMB

Hello all, I am currently in the process of planning a recabling of one of my pairs ER6i's and was wondering if anyone had done this before? If so do you have any advice on the subject like what is the easiest way of getting them apart? The mod is purely for aesthetic reasons and not for...- NMB
