Hello all,

I am currently in the process of planning a recabling of one of my pairs ER6i's and was wondering if anyone had done this before? If so do you have any advice on the subject like what is the easiest way of getting them apart?

The mod is purely for aesthetic reasons and not for sound quality. If it makes any difference would a cable mod on a pair of ER4P's be any easier?

I have searched the forum but was unable to find a post clearly detailing the matter.

Thank you in advance,

Nicholas

ER4 does have a detachable cable but isn't really designed to be taken apart very often as the connection get's loose after a while. APureSound makes a replacement cable for the ER4 but it is expensive ($200). I have bought it and like the total package but purely for sound improvement it isn't really worth that price imho.

Thank you very much for the replies. Ericj's recabling walkthrough was exactly what I needed. I have now ordered all the bits I require so will endeavor to complete the mod in the coming weeks. Fortunately my soldering skills aren't too shabby and I have a rather good soldering iron.

Thank you again. I am so impressed by this community as it is the first time I have come across it.

iirc that's 5/8" heatshrink.

You'll notice that the original heatshrink covering has a small notch where the cable goes by it. It's nearly impossible to make a perfect little notch here, but, don't even bother - the cable doesn't actually rub up against the heatshrink unless you use too much.

The trick to getting regular old headphone wire (like ibud cable) through the hole in the plastic is to stretch the jacketing until it covers the end of the wires, so you can push it through jacket-first. I should add that to the original thread.
