Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Cable Matters Premium 2 pack XLR cables. They are OFC cables and have good reviews but are advertised as microphone and speaker cables. That could be why there was improvement when I replaced them.- DeeT79

I use the PYST Snake Oil XLR cables that Schiit sells. Found them to be a significant improvement over the previous Amazon cables that I was using although they're not very expensive. I believe in quality cables but it's not rocket science and you don't have to break the bank to get good sound...- DeeT79

I've had both and there was no difference in sound. The black glass were made a little bit later, I think in the 60s and were used to reduce the light signature for military application. Other than that, everything is mostly the same.- DeeT79

The other thing to remember is that system synergy matters more than how much something costs. A $20K system that has synergy will sound better than a $100K system with no synergy. One can use an $18K DAC that sounds great with one amp and sound terrible with another amp. A $3K DAC might be...- DeeT79

I've been considering May KTE. Is it true that I will need external upsampling to get the best out of May?- DeeT79

It's unfortunate that you have the hum issue. I have an OG A2 that's almost 2 years old and I have never had an issue.- DeeT79

I'm going to go back to his review and check it out. I usually enjoy his reviews but I've never heard anything too bad said about the Envy previously so I'd be interested to see his thoughts.- DeeT79

That appears to be the case. I can only assume that the quality is on par with the EDIS power transformer or Feliks would not have selected that manufacturer.- DeeT79

My Envy is on the way back to me due to the very slight hum that I was hearing and as promised, I wanted to provide an update. The tech said that when he put my Envy on the bench, he heard higher than typical hum. This is odd too because as I stated, I could only hear the hum if I put my ear...- DeeT79

I've heard some people with Red October say that the OG Envy shouldn't be categorized or compared against Red October because of the higher price point and quality of parts in Red October and that a fair comparison would be with the new Envy AE. Granted, the people who made those comments...- DeeT79

Warranty is always a big consideration. One year is not long to begin with but at least if something happens a week later you are covered. I ordered some vintage mullard driver tubes from a well known seller and after two weeks one of the tubes went bad. It sucked because it took 60 days for me...- DeeT79

I really enjoy the sound I get from using a pair of RCA 5692 red base as drivers to the 300Bs in the Envy with OG and Susvara and I highly recommend them. Gets even better with Telefunken G73-R in terns of clarity, instrument separation, micro and macro details, but a little lighter in the low...- DeeT79

I came from DS when I got my Yggy and I didn't know what I was missing. I will never go back to DS. The OG A2 is so good to my ears that when I've thought about getting a Chord TT2, May KTE, Rockna Wavedream, or MSB Discrete DAC, I cannot justify moving on and paying 3-4 times more for the...- DeeT79

You shouldn't have to deal with these issues especially at the price point of the Yggdrasil and MJ3. Hopefully Schiit will make it right and iron out the bugs with these devices. I had heard nothing but universal praise for the MJ3 until your post.- DeeT79

Sorry to hear about your troubles. This is the first time that I'm hearing of these issues with the Yggdrasil. In my experience, after the initial warm up period when new, subsequent warm ups don't take long to obtain optimal performance. What is Schiit saying about your problems? I have an OG...- DeeT79
