Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

That is very disappointing. Especially with new discs. I think one for customer support right away. Are you on the up to date firmware?

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Darko did a review on the new Teac. Nice looking machine. Not sure which Vrds drive it is based on. Some were much better than others. I have a Jay's Audio CDT2 mk 3 which I think has a legacy Philips CDM 4 drive. I hope they have plenty of spares, because no one is building those these days. Or...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I think he just wants a spare "just in case", which seems sensible. Looks like they are pretty readily available at present, and cheap, so stocking up makes good sense.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Just a wee note. You don't need a fancy hdmi cable, but generally with I2S the shorter the better. If you can get away with 50cm or shorter that's great, but don't sweat it if you can't. No idea why, but that is the received wisdom. If using rj45, even shorter is better. Of course I2S was...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

That's an interesting point from both of you, and I kind of agree with you both. If transports don't affect the sound then you might as well get a cheap dvd player and use the digital output, but I think we all agree that transports do affect the sound, but likely in terms of accuracy and...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I know you have probably tried this, but have you given the laser a clean? And the cds themselves. Sometimes we get so fascinated with the tech we forget the basics. I recently spent a week troubleshooting a vintage amp which became incredibly noisy, before realising it just didn't like the...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

I agree. I don't find it a major issue, though I don't listen to a lot of classical music. Of course, they fixed it on ET3, I believe, so maybe they can do the same for it's little brother.

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Hi. Just went to check my mini. Set the time in System settings then swipe right from the left of the screen. That takes you to the prior page and the new time is retained. Hope that helps.

Thanks Shanling. Appreciate the clarification. Love my mini. Great product.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I agree. It is odd, and it would be convenient to have it plugged in all the time on the desktop.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

It is in the manual, but you would be forgiven for missing it. No.7 of Security Instructions. For some reason I cant copy and paste it but its there. "Please try and avoid using this unit when it is charging"

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I should perhaps mention that Shanling advises not using the ec mini while charging. Not sure why, but that does potentially affect its useability as a standalone house player. Having said that, it has excellent battery life and I have been using it as a desktop unit and just charging overnight...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

I agree, with the addition that you can use it in the car, or in a coffee shop etc. Shanling have included software so that the unit will switch on when the ignition starts. For wallking or jogging I would go with the M0 or M3 Ultra players.

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Just a thought. Have you tried connecting your dacs then switching them off and on again while connected ? It's a trick I used when having trouble connecting my Aries femto streamer to my Burson DAC which would not recognise it initially.

Ah. You already had a reply. Sorry. Hadn't read that yet. Remains a mystery then.

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Ah. Of course. Like you, though, I assumed most modern dacs can read just about anything, though some are capped at certain sampling frequencies and dsd can also be capped. I did know that some dongle dacs have power requirements which may not be met. Ie I don't think you can use a dongle dac...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

I attached the mini to my Cayin RU6 and the Cayin draws 0.08 amps at 5.2 volts when idle and 0.11 amps when playing with Focal Elegia attached. If the requirement for your DACs is less or equal to that they should work.

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

I checked the usb out with my usb detector when connected to the Topping and, unsurprisingly, it puts out 5.2 volts.

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Yep. I wondered if it perhaps did not put out enough juice via the usb port to power passive DACs like dongle DACs, but it does power my Cayon RU6, and your DAP has its own power supply. The documentation says the line out is 2.1v, but I presume this relates to the analog line out.

You see them very occasionally on eBay in the UK, but a lot of them failed abd parts are no.longer available. I had the lovely scd 200T valve SACD player which failed, though it was my fault. I bought it as a gray import from Hong Kong to the UK which meant it was running at slightly the wrong...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

It works in preout mode when playing a cd through the usb output and outputs to the DAC at the expected 44.1. Don't think my DAC shows the bit rate but it will be 16 bits. Pretty sure the mini does not upsample, unlike its ET3 big brother. Have you tried fiddling with the modes in your outboard...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Yep. On 2.2. Thought I should upgrade while I was struggling with the menu. Given your issues I popped up and tried the Cayin RU6 r2r dongle. It worked perfectly. Odd you are having so many problems. I just hooked it up to the Topping E50 and it works. A s you also have have one, why not give it...

Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

That's the fun thing about this. Different use cases. I am primarily going to use it on my computer desktop as headphone amp and dac and as a roon endpoint. Also to play the occasional cd not available on streaming. I'm not primarily going to use it for critical listening as I am primarily a...

Actually, I have a Cayin RU6 dongle dac. Hadn't thought of trying that but might give it a go. Good luck with it.

Sorry Inju. I did reply but not correctly so you may not get notified. If you look above you will see my post. The short answer is yes, with a Burson.
