Soldering Iron question
That is a Hakko 936 knock-off. A decent Tip Thermometer is an expensive piece of hardware and costs many times as much as the station. They are used on Industrial stations for occasional calibration. Most irons of this type ( as opposed to certain Weller irons where the tip controls the...- Ajit

Analog Devices BUF04 Buffers
I have a few of these which I picked up on eBay a while ago. Much research on Google and the Forums do not turn up too much info, especially on application. There is a data sheet here . It is pin compatible with the BUF03. Has anyone worked with these? Can I use them as buffers in the...- Ajit

Is a Hakko 936 my best choice?
Check out the Edsyn website. They have the 951HP on Close-out at $99 which is about a third of its List Price.. They have a number of tips on clearance at throwaway prices too. They are Nickel plated ( not iron ) and last less, but what can you expect for $1.50 each. I stocked up on tips for my...- Ajit

Engraving One-Off Circuits a No-Go
I had a friend who many years ago used to make PCBs with a Dremel Rotary Tool. Nothing complicated, just 3-4 transistor audio amps and suchlike. They looked really good though! Has anyone heard one of these?
Thank you, rickcr42 and sbelyo ! I have built a 386 amp and did not like it. I have built the kids CMoys and A47s already. I'd probably build them a couple of Pimetas as I already have most of the parts lying around. My problem is the time to do the casing ... I enjoy the electronic DIY part...- Ajit

Today I came across a DigiZoid ZAX Headphone Amplifier on eBay. Curiosity got the better of me and I went over to their webpage which does not have much in the way of Specs. I e-mailed them and this is what they wrote me: " Hello Ajit, Yes, the unit has a separate 3.5mm phono jack for...- Ajit

The Art of Electronics by Horowitz and Hill
Clutz, I hope we are getting the right book ... When I was back home in India, there was a company called Tata McGraw-Hill which used to produce a lot of similar books for about a fifth of the cost in the U.S. The quality was outstanding as well, probably attributable to the fact that Tata is...- Ajit
