Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

The PX8 is a colored, thick sounding headphone lacking in transparency. It doesn't resolve at a high enough level to make a difference. If you like the tuning and sound then get them in spite of your Samsung's codec limitations. I didn't and returned them. They are very comfortable and the ANC...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

Well, I decided I would try (at a very steep discount) a pair of B&W PX5 headphones, brand new in the box old stock, since I couldn't enjoy the PX8. I wrote of my experiences earlier this year... I realize the PX5 is a few years old now, and is on-ear vs. over-ear compared to the PX8. The app...

You make good points for the general use case of people listening to low-fi or medium-fi material, bit rates and content. YouTube, Pandora, etc. I tend to listen mostly to music, lossless or Ultra Hi Def, via AptX HD, AptX Adaptive or LDAC on my wireless in-ear headphones and over the ear...

Enjoy what you enjoy! No apologies required. That is why there are so many darned good brands and models of headphones out there. Better yet, own both!

Yes. I did as have a few others. In the right channel of a brand new set. Returned. Second set was perfect. It's a known issue but sporadically appears. Return then and get a replacement.

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

This is so well said. I completely agree. I didn't like their sound signature and returned them. The build quality and tech was all good and fine. The 2 band eq is not enough to correct the sound deficiencies adequately. But I also do not prefer to EQ. If it's deficient out of the box it's...

What he said. 🤣 Well said actually. One thing I have noticed is that APTX Adaptive sounds a little more "dynamic" to me than APTX HD. Might be the increased high frequency energy that was addressed above. It presents to me as a slightly increased dynamic range. I never feel as if I am...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

You would be very hard pressed to notice any differences between 24/48 and 24/96. IMHO the B&W PX8 do not sound sufficiently transparent nor resolving to expose any differences in sampling rates at these levels. And even on a more transparent headphone you'd have a difficult time noticing the...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

I doubt it will because if memory serves the PX8 also maxes out (internal DAC) at 48 khz, even when using APTX Adaptive. This was discussed many pages ago in this forum.

I have a Pixel 8 and have since returned my PX8 for reasons of sound quality. But as far as the tech goes, the Pixel 8 will default to APTX HD. The Pixels do not have a Snapdragon chipset and do not support APTX adaptive. So you will lose out on 96khz sampling rate but will still get 24 bit /...

I like Peter Bernstein btw, and will check out that record! I was listening to Emmet Cohen, Masters Legacy Series Volume One, Jimmy Cobb. Great sound, great record.

The issues of the past couple of posts are what makes this a fascinating hobby. I generally agree with Angelom on his points above. To EQ something out of the box to this long term audiophile means there are problems with tonality, timbre and frequency response. Why would we want to listen to...

I had to return my first pair for the same ANC problem in the right channel. Second pair was perfect in that regard. But ended up returning the second pair as well for reasons of sound quality. I loved the build quality and comfort though.

Appreciate the advice and background. Looking to score a deal. Hate the retail prices on those models. And the H95 is getting long in the tooth.

Thank you. I remember reading that and might have been you who reported it. I've updated to most current app and firmware and all seems well. No changes to sound. These definitely fit the bill better for me than the B&W PX8 did sound wise. Build-wise the PX8 wins by a small amount. Comfort...

Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

You might recall my saga of returning the B&W PX8 a couple of weeks ago. I was new to this forum and posted my observations about how I loved everything about the PX8 except for the sound. :) Although these are not very popular, and are 3 or so years old now, I picked up a used pair of...

The Aonic 50 has more bass boost with ANC on using APTX HD than it does using LDAC. With LDAC it sort of gets more congested. Not so with APTX HD. The Aonic 50 benefits from that bass boost IMHO.

L Love the review and comparisons!! I would have been interested in your impression of the Shure running Aptx HD instead of LDAC given my prior comments. But it appears I need to audition the ML. Thank you!!

TK33, Very well said and I agree with you on almost everything here. I also own the Bluesound Node 2i and some other NAD equipment (two hometheater receivers, 787 and 747) and that technology is great. That said I haven't used it for Bluetooth as I stream over wifi and at hi res. For...

I liked everything (except for one key thing) about the PX8s, including their ability to step down to APTX-HD on my Pixel! I do wish they had LDAC codec support. That said, the sound quality was deficient enough to me that I could not justify keeping such an expensive pair of cans when I...
