    Room to grow

    Interesting. A bit comprehensive, but a good reference. Bought it. From the reviews: ...and Hope springs eternal! :beerchug:

    Room to grow

    Things have started to add up for me. In the past year I tried to get some decent quality sound in my life through headphones, which involved a lot of reading and watching. The decision for headphones was natural based on a couple of assumptions: headphones give the best sound quality, and a...

    Okay fine, I'll get a bluetooth. || Momentum 4: A field report

    A note on the effects of ANC in this quiet environment. Here are the sounds I can hear without headphones: There is a small fish tank to my right. The water level is currently low, and the incoming water makes a continual splashing, tinkling sound. The mechanical timer for the fish tank...

    Okay fine, I'll get a bluetooth. || Momentum 4: A field report

    Rather than just do a list of "audiophile" songs like Tin Pan Alley, Aphex Twins et al., I want to describe how I hear the Momentum 4 on "normal" songs, compared to my other decent headphones. I guess this will be good excercise for me in developing my listening skills and in describing what I...

    Okay fine, I'll get a bluetooth. || Momentum 4: A field report

    Just tested with (a) on-head detection off, (b) on-head detection on and smart pause off and (c) on-head detection and smart pause both on. In all configurations, double tapping activates transparency, pausing music if on, and double tapping again resumes ANC (and music). I hadn't noticed...

    Okay fine, I'll get a bluetooth. || Momentum 4: A field report

    Yep, saw that while doing the review and again before posting, but that isn't really what I'm setting out to do. Nice. I have listened to a couple dozen songs so far, and already trying to think of how to put what I hear into words. One thing is that it very much depends on the song. The...

    Okay fine, I'll get a bluetooth. || Momentum 4: A field report

    I'm going to be flying pretty much weekly for six months in the new year, as well as taking trains and buses. I got a set of Etymotics, thinking the passive isolation would be more than enough for traveling. Noticed on a flight earlier this year, however, that quite a bit of engine noise still...

    Feedback by 'kagif' on listing '1st gen Chord Mojo like new w/box, dead internal battery'

    This transaction was fun for me. Top communication, sending lots of information, answering questions and making arrangements. And the item is exactly as described, I'm quite satisfied. Really a great way for a head-fi enthusiast to start out. Thank you!

    Connecting DAC with USB C to phone with USB micro

    Finally received the FiiO CL06, it does indeed solve the problem. It might be possible to find a cheaper cable out there, but this one is well built and seems it will be worth the small investment. The cost where i am was about EUR 8 (plus 4 for shipping). At first it seemed it would not...

    Connecting DAC with USB C to phone with USB micro

    A reply already came from EarMen: So I will look for an OTG cable with USB micro to USB C, and post the result here. Meanwhile, anyone with experience on this issue is still welcome to chime in.

    Starting iem enthousiast looking for advice

    On a practical note, as you're in Europe don't forget to factor in the cost of VAT and customs fees. You can order them from Amazon for EUR 80, or directly from shenzenaudio for a bit less, but you'll still need to pay the tax and duty.

    Connecting DAC with USB C to phone with USB micro

    As a new and inexperienced owner of the EarMen Sparrow, I am so far quite happy with its performance. My first major snag has been that when I plug it into my Android phone, it doesn't get a signal. The device comes with a USB C – USB C cable and a USB A – USB C cable, and it works well driven...

    Starting iem enthousiast looking for advice

    Hi, the Moondrop Arias seem to be a solid choice. I got my first pair of IEMs (KZ ZS10 Pro) a few months ago, and have had my eye on the Arias for a while. I very quickly changed my mind because of an opportunity to buy a pair of Etymotic ER4XR used for basically half price. I did this because...

    im looking for a good headphone

    Your Momentums are closed-back headphones. Found sound quality, open-backed cans are generally considered better (for a price point I guess), so how important to you is isolation? Are there others around who would be bothered by leaking sound? I recently got a pair of Sennheiser (Drop) HD6XX...

    I have a 512GB micro-SD card, a low-end unused Android phone and a Qudelix 5K (each bought initially for different purposes). Any gotchas behind this Frankenstein of a DAP?

    With the micro-USB - USB-C cable, are you intending to play via USB audio into a dongle? If so, I'm not so sure this phone will do that. If it's just for transferring files to the storage, you could do that from a computer with a USB micro to USB A cable.

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    Officers from Prague Město Police’s Major Crime Unit launched an investigation yesterday (April 26) after a man was found by family members inside the master bedroom of their home. The police were called to the property at around 9:00pm on Monday (April 25) to a concern for welfare of a man at...

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    Oh... right, I meant... (looks about helplessly, then fixes eyes on own feet) ... Whoops. :joy: I've obviously put a lot of time into this! Resisting Schiit puns. Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to try out the headphones just with the Sparrow at first and take a bit of time on the...

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    Shake away, this is what I'm here for! This isn't a hobby for me; I haven't given it years of attention, so I can't easily parse the truth of a review, certainly don't know the biases of the sites, and just want to assume that if a fair number of reviewers think the same way about a particular...

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    That's a very thoughtful reply, megabigeye. I understand what you say and I can agree. After reading many reviews, there is no question in my mind that there is a huge perceived difference. The question, as you rightly point out, is this: is the difference in the balanced vs. single-ended output...

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    Gjeven, the power needed by the Sparrow depends on the output power required. Here is a relevant paragraph from a review that might interest you: https://theheadonist.com/2020/11/19/review-earmen-sparrow-a-marvel-of-miniaturisation/3/ earmonger, thanks very much for the recommendation. I am...

    Bird on a wire (a balancing act)

    Hi all, I've long been interested in hi-fi from afar, trying only to allow myself to get in up to my ankles... My story goes that I got Sennheiser Momentum in-ears a few years back and more recently HyperX for gaming with my son. For the workplace I went with a pair of AT M40x to drown out the...
