    DIY Earbuds

Oooh, nice! That specific dye brand is a pain to find where I live haha! Ends up costing like ~30USD per 200mL bottle + shipping if I import it. I've tried using some dyes I could find locally and spraying lacquer/varnish, but it's kinda hard to get a good finish on the shells afterwards 😅...

Wow, that looks great, the color is so vivid! :ok_hand: Mind sharing the dyeing process, please? Been meaning to try dyeing cables but got some stuff in the way lol

    DIY Earbuds

Bass (mid-bass)! The few drivers that had more exaggerated sub-bass "naturally", as in using them on an MX500 shell without mods, were the 600ohm Bery, the 300ohm blue drivers from Huayunxin and these 300ohm PET drivers. A lot can be achieved with acoustic modifications, so if you're aiming...

    DIY Earbuds

I can't remember a single instance where I liked a bud both naked AND with donut foams. Almost everything gets way too muddy for me. Generally speaking, thinner foams will block out less of the treble, making you notice more bass. Bass will also increase when the driver "faceplate" is touching...

    DIY Earbuds

Oh boy, that's exactly where I got the drivers from hahaha! Hope it's "fixable" with different shells, the one I'm making leaves a lot more space than the PR1 original shell, and I'll also work on some custom faceplates, I'm curious to check how similar tuning techniques from over-ear planars...

    DIY Earbuds

I searched all over the internet and all OEM planar drivers I found would end up at ~100USD (50USD + 50USD shipping) each pair, so I purchased a KZ PR1 (non-pro) for 40USD and stole its driver haha! I really, really disliked the KZ PR1, but it could achieve some very nice bass. I never tuned...

    DIY Earbuds

Received mine last month, I made some changes to the MX500 shell, and it ended up having very, very little bass, haha! It's my most resolving pair of earbuds so far, though, better than the VE Zen Lite Vita, for example. It has a pretty unique sound, tbh. I thought about comparisons for a while...

    DIY Earbuds

Planar earbuds on the way! I'll most likely have to create a custom faceplate for this type of driver, but I'll check how it sounds with the MX500 faceplate first, hehe :) Also, the driver didn't fit the MX500 shell, so I had to make one out of wood with lots of drilling and sanding, still one...

    DIY Earbuds

Just purchased the 600ohm Beryllium and a few other drivers to try out, and since I'm splurging on the drivers this time, these will be my first earbuds with actually nice cables  By the way, a few months ago I built a few earbuds with these drivers and they sounded pretty nice, so I'll...

Estimating channel imbalance of headphone cable

Hey I know that the thread is really old, but I was just troubleshooting my first pair of DIY IEMs, and it had a channel imbalance. I thought I messed something up on the acoustics when building them, maybe when soldering. Turns out, the 2-pin socket had a tiny little plastic bump on one of the...
