Do I "need" a Sennheiser HD600/650/660S(S2) series headphone?

Of course, the graph is extremely similar but not identical anyway. Solderdude gave a very different impression, above all after some slight tweak (with foam) that lowered a bit the 150hz bump (that is already much less pronounced than a HD650 in stock form), avoiding masking effects and...

Monolith M1570 Over Ear Open Back Balanced Planar Headphones

The clamp is very light, but this is easily fixable: you have to lightly bend the yokes, near the earcups, not the top of the headband. If you have a newer version of the M1570 the metal is resistent and hard, but it is bendable anyway, just do it gradually and carefully. Audiophile ninja can...

Do I "need" a Sennheiser HD600/650/660S(S2) series headphone?

Personally, I preferred the HD58X to HD600 (marble), HD650 (Ireland), HD560S, HD400. Unbeatable headphone at that price, for me. Almost same FR graph than the new HD660S2 (see solderdude comparison at diyaudioheaven). At about the same price, or slightly above, I liked the Deva Pro wired very much.

Monolith M1570 Over Ear Open Back Balanced Planar Headphones

My major problem with the M1570 was that its headband discharges all the weight of the headphone on the center of the head, so a pair of dekoni nuggets sticked on the extreme sides of the headband solved the weight problem for me, by distributing the overall weight on three points over my head...

Monolith M1570 Over Ear Open Back Balanced Planar Headphones

Excellent advice, thank you, just received these pads and I find them better than both stock pads, and even a bit better than the ones I found on aliexpress and modified with holes: with your suggested pads pinna gain area is not recessed like the stock pleather ones and not as forward as the...

    New to Headphones-Not to HiFi

Don't know if there are many headphones that achieve a big and enveloping soundstage without sarificing somehow tonality. Probably it all depends on your priorities. I have had the Hifiman edition XS and their sounstage was really wide and enjoiable, but tonally wise I prefer the cheaper Deva...

    New to Headphones-Not to HiFi

Magni is good enough, I have had two models of it. Good. HD560S is a good headphone but the 4-6 Khz elevation could be very hearable and nasty, depending on the sample (there is some batch variation, it seems). I have had both 560S and HD400, and the second one, despite formally being the same...

best headphones for mixing/mastering sub $500?

ETA Mini C is a great tool for mixing. Excellent dynamics and tonal balance, translates very well on my speaker system (better than Sennheiser 6XX and many others) and is a closed back, but leaks a bit.

    ETA Mini headphone

It always surprises me how much individual perception can differ. I have an Eta Mini Closed, and my impression are completely different from yours. I mean, completely. What I hear is a slight emphasis around 1Khz area (not desiderable, but very light and not offending); no lack on 3-4K region...

    Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread

I agree with all of the above, but that was not my point anyway. No problem, maybe I'm not able to explain what I mean, but it is not important. If you have no doubt that you enjoy your PR2, that's fine, it is a tool to enjoy music.

    Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread

Of course, everything depending on ear canal physiology is highly subjective: It is a second layer of subjectivity, beyond personal tastes. In my case, it is too much. Just to have a reference for my idea of 'neutrality', or natural sound in the pinna gain region: I just listen to Pavarotti...

Everyone here, and everywhere, is just voicing his personal point of view, I do not think we really need to append YMMV, IMHO and similar verbal tics at each and every post.

I agree, but I also didn't like the excessive pinna gain (2k and up)

    Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread

I agree with the "unnatural" definition more than with the "analytical" one. I didn't like the PR2 at all, already sold after listening to them for 10 minutes max (I'm not a burn in supporter). For me, they are just badly tuned, I am new to IEMs but really don't understand the hype for this set...

    Neumann NDH 30

The measurement of the NDH30 form Oratory is reported on the last post on this page, and compared with the HD560S: https://gearspace.com/board/product-alerts-older-than-2-months/1378945-new-neumann-ndh-30-open-back-headphones-6.html Measurements from Oratory are usually good. And, by the way...

    Best headphones for piano?

I agree with chesebert about HD650 (and HD600) dynamics, not that they are bad, they are just not outstanding for me. I have had and sold both, preferring my Monolith M1570 to them (both for dynamics and timbre). When you play a piano, even a digital one, you are creating and controlling...

    Best headphones for piano?

For a few days now I'm using the Koss KPH40 (Pianoteq 8 as well), and I don't think I will change them easily for something else. Very good tonal balance, good dynamics and soundstage and the most comfortable headphones ever.

Recommendation for flat response / mixing headphones

In this price range the Sennheiser HD560S is a good choice. I suspect that the HD400 Pro, that is almost the same headphone but a little more expensive, is more consistent in its frequency response and has less batch variance, but this is just a conjecture on my side : I have heard both (not...

YULONG Aurora, small but perfectly formed AIO DAC/Pre/HeadAmp

I have my Aurora with the PL50. Honestly, I didn't listen for the differences in an analytical way; broadly speaking, what is most noticeable is a slightly more present high end, but I'm talking of a very slight, barely udible difference. There could be some slight improvement in overall focus...
