Holo Audio Red Streamer
Tim sent me the link on Sunday and I stepped back to the previous version. Not a single microstutter since then. Where was this repository when I was searching? Lol, just kidding. Nice to have that in the future, nice work. Cheers, Robert- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
Are you certain about this? If so it would be good to see references. It's been pretty clearly established from my reading that the May uses its own internal clock for USB content and the PLL is only utilized for the other inputs. In any case PLL was not on before the OS update and is not on...- WildPhydeaux

Thank you for the links. I did try searching to no avail so I appreciate this very much. I can toggle PLL on, but that shouldn't make any difference at all since PLL is not used for the USB input. Cheers, Robert- WildPhydeaux

Least helpful reply after the fact and it's not the question. The question is where are the older revisions of the Red OS available? I've sent Holo in the US a support query but don't expect them to reply for weeks or months. Probably ever to be honest. Incidentally, the stutters happen in...- WildPhydeaux

At this point I've got several hours of listening in with zero stutters having only changed the Reds mode from Performance to Compatibility. All previous listening sessions with the Red in Performance mode had at least one or two instances of stutters. It's looking like a bug in my view...- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
Updated the Red OS release to 2024.04.21 the other day. Didn't note any obvious changes in the settings option except the two options right at the top: Compatibility Mode (can select multiple services) or Performance Mode (only one service). Not sure if Performance Mode would be any different...- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
Right, the Red certainly is not converting anything. I mean Roon can be configured to convert DSD to PCM before sending it out, but I don't have Roon doing any conversion at all. And the May is set to NOS and is correctly displaying what is expected. It just seems super weird that the Red's...- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
Thank you very much for confirming what I am experiencing is expected behaviour. Seems odd to me, but so be it... Any idea about my other question regarding how the Red's DSD setting, which I set to Native, changes to PCM when its actually processing a DSD stream? I mean, the May is showing its...- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
This is not what I am observing. Almost the opposite in fact. On both the Red's homepage and within Roon I only see the USB if the May is set to the USB input. If I change the input on the May to I2S, the USB option in Roon dissappears and also no longer is visible on the Red's homepage. So...- WildPhydeaux

Wow. That is very strange, but I now see it as a separate entry under Roon in the Red homepage and enabled it. I swear that was not there before. So Roon sees these two interfaces as separate devices, so I now have two Reds in Roon. Weird, but OK I guess. So a couple questions if you don't...- WildPhydeaux

Holo Audio Red Streamer
I just purchased an (used) Holo May and Holo Red. Am having a problem getting usb connection working. I2S worked out of the box. Did some searching but don't see anything that fits as a resolution... Red only has Roon service selected. Both I2S and USB cables between the Red and May. Only other...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
Or perhaps the older coal miners were simply more focused in listening for the inevitable bump. But seriously I would expect there are indeed general health factors which could affects one's degree of tinnitus beyond the known risks like blood pressure. I changed my diet fairly significantly...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
Thanks for the kind wishes. I saw your original reply and was saddened for your frustration with the medical community. I certainly understand to a degree. It's unfortunate the professionals you've seen gave you the impression they either knew very little or cared much about something as...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
Interesting, the thought that removal or strong attenuation of frequencies that appear to comprise the person's tinnitus as a means of negating it, or not at least not exacerbating it. In my own very much layman's and likely off-base thought process as to the why's of tinnitus, I postulate that...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
From my reading on the matter, you're correct in that medical science has no answers as to what tinnitus actually is or the range of contributing factors that can effect it or cause it. There is a well known correlation to increased blood pressure within the ear and in this case, which can...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
Thanks, that's encouraging having anecdotal information that the tinnitus "distraction" functions on some hearing aids may be of benefit. Interestingly I did actually get a pair of hearing aids about a year ago after a visit to the Costco hearing center. I ended up with one of their top line...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
Thanks for your kind reply. I know I am far from alone and I also know that many have it far worse than myself so I try to keep things in perspective. It was a bit torturous to be honest though, hearing what I could be enjoying then revealing the price. I live in a rural area in Saskatchewan...- WildPhydeaux

Science of hearing what you're not hearing
I'll be up front and honest. I want to post a classified ad or two and don't have enough posts to be able to do so as I'm more of a reader/studier than poster. However, rather than dither on about nothing or post half-hearted replies and pollute existing threads, I thought why not ask others...- WildPhydeaux

The Reference 6SN7 Thread
I'm of two minds with these pictures. The first is that, wow, what kind of nerve to post these when it seems crystal clear that they must be fake. But to be honest I'm no expert and the tubes may well be the real 1952 "bad boy" tubes that someone has "touched up" the paint for reasons of vanity...- WildPhydeaux
