Watts Up...?
Actually, he proves he can distinguish two different reconstruction filters successfully, on the same DAC amp. Never the less, it is significant. I would praise him for his thoroughness, and his efforts.- Kentajalli

Hifiman Edition XS Launched
The metal yokes are connected to the cups by means of barrel bolts and nuts, similar to these: You can not open them and not break them! they have glue in the threads to lock them in, virtually impossible to undo. So forget that. The other end of the yokes have been inserted into the...- Kentajalli

LCD-X and XC Update
Not the XC (closed back), but the X (open back). The LCD-X and LCD-5 are both open back planars, obviously the 5 is better, but is it over three times better? (1300 vs 4500) I don't think so! but against MM500? I take the X, regardless of price. Anybody who has an XC, and likes more bass...- Kentajalli

LCD-X and XC Update
I heard both at canjams, twice, and at length. I take the X every time. LCD-5 is a little better! Frankly, I told the Audeze reps, as a joke, to pull the X off the market! it is hard to justify the price of the LCD-5 against the X! I personally wanted a closed back, so I got myself the XC 21.- Kentajalli

And I just drop mine into my headphone case and carry it with me on the plain or the train, to listen to some music, killing the time. It was made to be transportable/mobile headphone DAC-Amp with added possibility of using it as a home DAC, I reckon it was an attempt to justify its relatively...- Kentajalli

Check your preamp setting. If it is hidden and is set to a positive value, this very thing happens. Also check your eq settings, for similar issues.- Kentajalli

LCD-X and XC Update
The HE1K is more comfortable to wear, and requires less EQ out of the box (to my ears), has a pleasant sound too. The LCD-X requires more EQ out of the box. But one thing the LCD-X does is that it is practically distortion-less! That would tip the balance for me, even though HE1K is not far behind.- Kentajalli

LCD-X and XC Update
I no longer have my Mojo2, but I do have a Hugo2. Hugo2 sounds very similar to Mojo2, albeit a little more controlled over all and some say, a bit brighter. Power output and impedances are pretty similar. LCD-X and LCD-XC are both very efficient headphones, requiring little power to go very...- Kentajalli

Generalization? what generalization. I was comparing Chord's supplied SMPS (specific) to some LPS Powersupplies. I did say there are some pricy and well engineered ones out there.- Kentajalli

If the cable is bad (high impedance, and yes! they do exist) charging either slows down or stops. If both charger and cable are good, Mojo2 decides to charge faster, because it senses that enough current is available without significant voltage drop. This is done by ascertaining the situation...- Kentajalli

Mojo2 is strictly a USB2 device! regardless of the shape of the connector. Even the USB-C data port, works ONLY in USB2. And the cables connecting it to DAPs are also in USB2. Indeed, digital Audio does not go beyond USB2, nor it needs to.- Kentajalli

An LPS may be noisier than you think! There are some really pricy stuff out there that are no doubt , well made and engineered. However, on majority of cases, an SMPS is ultimately beneficial & superior. - SMPS employs no ground connection, so reduces the possibility of ground loop noise...- Kentajalli

USB 3 has additional pins and protocols. Through these protocols, a device can identity itself to the host. USB 2 (Mojo2's case) does not abide by such protocols. In effect, for power purposes, it is a dumb system. The extra abilities of USB-C or USB3 are lost to a Mojo2. I would not use the...- Kentajalli

Nothing wrong with your Mojo. It needs a wall charger for more reasons than one. Don't try to cheat it. Use a GOOD wall charger, at least 2amp capability, made by a known brand. No £1 shop chargers.- Kentajalli

LCD-X and XC Update
I have the XC 21. I wonder what your end goal is! The XC out of the box, is a little deep-bass shy & a little high-treble hot. Having said that, I fell in love with them instantly when I heard them at a CanJam, & subsequently bought a pair. I have even modded mine, if you do a search, I made a...- Kentajalli

LCD-XC or X surely. good headphones, almost no distortion or resonances, easy peasy to drive. Mojo2 is more than ample. Though Mojo2 can drive the Focal Clears (is that what you meant?), The Clears are in no way in the same league as HD800 or either LCDs.- Kentajalli

Well engineered ones surely are good. But OTL by default need to be perfectly balanced in the output stage or DC currents will flow out into headphones. So well engineered ones need to have a balancing circuit. OTLs (output transformer less) do not have an output transformer to protect both the...- Kentajalli

OTLs have a lowest impedance capability, below which, they should not be used. Indeed "rated output power" for an OTL is a little bit confusing. They should quote max. current and min. impedance. OTLs don't like low impedances, so a flat impedance above their rated impedance handling is fine...- Kentajalli

There is something about OTL amps that needs to be taken into account. OTL amps are Current Amplifiers. That means, theoretically and upto their max current capability, the power goes up as load impedance goes up. SSD amps, standard tube amps with transformers are the opposite, as they are...- Kentajalli

Does Chord make headphones? Does Rob Watts design anything remotely transducer wise? He designs the Digital side of things and some analogue bits to go with them, so he tries to design the best he can in his own field. Let those who are in transducer/headphone design circles, such as Dr. Olive...- Kentajalli

By "what the artist intended" cry as a rallying call, I suppose I should listen to Beethoven's later works, at max volume! since he'd gone almost deaf by then. Artists and mastering engineers have ears too, with all those inadequacies mentioned. There is no perfect, there is no correct. Only...- Kentajalli
