Are iPod cables any good for recabling?

My Altec IEM's cable broke and I installed generic ipod clone cables. They sound very thin. Now since my iPod earbuds sound much thicker than those, perhaps they will be good donors for recabling the IM716. Has anyone tried using the iPOd cables for better phones?

RCA stereo to 3.5mm adapter questions

I am deciding on what intput jack to use on my tube headamp. I plan to have a 3.5mm input jack since my primary source will be my Ibook's 3.5mm headphone output jack. A 3.5mm cable will be easier to pack on the go. But occasionally I will be using the stereo rca outputs of my Musical Fidelity...

Old school Aiwa Microsystem now playing

So it's a lazy Friday night and beer is wearing off. I'm bored. Then I spot my 70s Aiwa Microsystem. I pull out its P22 amp and hook up my Ibook and plug my Altec IM716 IEM on the headphone jack. It's alive. These IEMs are really better off amped. Bass has good grip and everything just...

    Headphone safety puzzle

I've been reading posts claiming IEMs are "safer" than full cans or speakers for that matter. I don't totally buy this. SPL is SPL right? If I hear loud music from full cans and hear it just as loud using IEMs, they are registering same SPL right? So hearing damage if existent should be the...

    How old is your CMoy?

I like to have an idea on how durable these diy amps are, or other diy amps for the matter. But my vested interest is on teh Cmoy numbers. Ok, the search for the most durable Cmoy is on.

    Boostaroo mods

Ok ok, I know you hate this amp but have a look at http://www.dansdata.com/boostaroo.htm and please tell me: 1) why, based on the circuit design, it is "crappy" sounding amp and 2) what mods are possible to bring it up to par (can the opamps be changed?) 3) How will the sound...

Feedback on PX200 with CMoy amp

Has anyone used the Sennheiser PX200 with a CMoy amp? How will you describe the sound vs no amp? Any improvement? I was comparing my new PX200 with my burned-in HD497. I did notice that the HD497 had a bit more bass. The PX200 had pronounced mids. Dunno which is more accurate though. Dunno...

    Ratshack Booster Blues

I was just wondering, how can a "big firm" retailed amp, the Radioshack Volume Booster, lose out to affordable DIY amps like the Cmoy? Is it the circuit design? The parts used? I'd like to know it's shortcomings. Perhaps a stupid question, but for argument's sake, can parts be replaced to...

    Radioshack portable amp

Just bought a Radioshack Headphone Volume Booster. Works well with my Sennheiser HD497 and Panasonic SL-CT800. There is a very noticeable increase in volume and less distortion at high volumes. It can be used with up to 3 headsets. I will try this with the Sennheiser HD600 soon. Home it works...

    wma help

I ripped cds into .wma files and burned to cd-r using Windows Media player 9. Thing is, the first songs of each album/folder has a nasty scrating sound. the rest of the songs are ok. The files themselves play ok on the pc. I am using a Panasonic SL-CT800 portable with .wma capability.
