I do not know which would be a middle ground between trio and u18t but if i could choose only one i would take the u18t. the detail is spectacular and it is a lovely delicate sound which is entirely non-fatiguing. i currently have the trio, u18t and fourte and this is where i am at right now...- mrgray

in my opinion there is not much competition. u18t with m20 sounds a bit odd. i would say it does not suit the u18t to be bass heavy. the m15 is a very good match. so i do not find myself concerned in that regard.- mrgray

today my cable went to left ear only on way in as i was listening to my U18T which are freshly back from a service. feeling very sad about this i was happy to recall that i had the stock cable at work so the trip home would not be a loss. also new spiraldot ++ had arrived (they are very nice)...- mrgray

hi robthemac. i imagine a blind test would be tough. i find that the difference is more subtle. i find that extended listening is required to "tell" what the difference is. my experience was buying a chord hugo on the cheap and giving that a go versus my WM1Z. on the WM1Z it was nice and...- mrgray

mvvRAZ is spot on IMO. with U18t i found silicon (spiral dot by jvc) to be fantastic. if i tried using the mandarin symbio it ate up the top half of the sound (nullified it). on other hand symbio works great with both fourte and trio. maybe it isn't the material but fitment etc. but...- mrgray

couldn't agree more re: cable. stock cable is ergonomic but that's it. the difference between the stock cable and the PW 1950s could make anyone a believer in the cables. chalk and cheese. horrible high resolution on top of itself spaghetti versus a wide and highly resolved and entertaining...- mrgray

as people describe the Noir is how i feel about my new to me Fourte. can be just as technical as u18t but does it without saturating subject in scrutiny. there is also some swing and the bass is good and solid but can also be fluffy too and so there is great variety. i'm s**t at this but...- mrgray

i started on a trio and have recently been listening to fourte. i don't however find fourte bright but this is with the manadarin symbio's which control it i reckon. anyway i listened to trio's with same symbio. so that colours these comments. trio is detailed and exciting and revealing but...- mrgray

so much love the fourte around here lately and i wanted to chime in. i have only had them for a couple fo weeks or so. they really might be my favourite though because as toaster22 says there is something loudspeaker about the presentation. i have been putting a 2 channel system together for...- mrgray

High end (IEM) cable thread: impressions, pics, comparisons and reviews.
super cool edwardsean. thankyou. may i ask what iem you were using and also have you heard the pw1950s say for comparison? i run 1950 and whilst it is thrilling, it definitely chops and changes sound so something more honest is up my alley big time!- mrgray

HI Nawin. Yes i would say silicon is treble enhancing whilst foam is the opposite. On my u18T for example i love silicon. But on the fourte i find silicon a tad bright and find symbio mandarin to go v well.- mrgray

what sort of tips are you using? i use symbio mandarine because i think it makes it behave very nice. i think silicon might be too bright for this one- mrgray

trio does rumble. i started with 64audio with trio. it is less clean than the u18t, but of course there is tremendous detail still. i would say it is very like fourte but just not as hectic. perfect for everyday and i used it for commuting for ages. tried it on various cables but by...- mrgray

thanks for the recommendation. i will do that. both u18t and fourte and amazing. one would be happy with either. not enough of an idea if i have a preference and will save that for when i can A/B them.- mrgray

also having just received fourte's myself i agree there is not a coherence issue. they sound amazeballs and whilst whole spectrum isn't punched into your face like it is with u18t (i think), there is some body, depth and 3d about them which is pretty great. if i had never heard the u18t's i'd...- mrgray

wasn't someone praising 2 wire 1960 for same thing in regard to u18t the other day? this might be something worth checking out? would love to hear more if there is an a/b comparison on same source etc for fourte or noirte with 1960 2 wire versus 1950. just that being lazy i would have assumed...- mrgray

yes i apologise. "sad" is inept. i think i'm referring to depth. on the r4 there is a tremendous space that everything is laid out in, and it feels like it has depth. the 1950 feels like it is relatively shallow. a lack of depth and instead it's like it magnifies a portion of the sound...- mrgray

yes it is as Wyville says. i bang on about the r4 cable alot but there is a reason, it is kind of stupefying. i'm listening to kate bush on fourte and 1950 right now. it sounds incredible. as i listen to it i think, "what do i want for?". but when i get home and put fourte's on r4, you get...- mrgray

IMO it is not. the 1950s is like a curator. it examines what the music has to offer and then seems to make a decision about which part of the music it will drag out for you to hear. usually it makes great decisions. to me this is why the 1950 is a great commute cable. it brings things...- mrgray

Jvc 2nd smallest. Just received the fourte. A lot more fun and articulation than trio. Only at work so on 1950 which is not a huge detail cable. I think the r4 will be a better match. Reminds me of u18t in how complete / detailed it is but I feel like u18t might be stronger in I will...- mrgray

yes re: tips i was thinking i would try symbio Mandarin as i use these on trio and they work well on that. interestingly using symbio on U18T was a total disaster. utterly destroys the sound. spiral tips wonderful. re: cable i guess i will see how i go. i might try going for my ultimate...- mrgray

Anyone got any tips for cable pairing with fourte? I am looking forward to trying them out a lot and I suppose I will use r4 at home and 1950 at other times. Extremely excited to finally hear them. So much so that I’m not too worried about having to send u18t off for repair. If anybody...- mrgray
