Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

Hard to say. The op amp slots seem to vary from unit to unit on how loose or tight they hold the op amps. The op amps and extensions also seem to have slight variations in their pins as well. I personally wouldn't try to go vertical with extensions, but whether or not it works will come down to...

Review by 'Dramlin' on item 'Burson Audio Soloist 3X Grand Tourer'

Burson Audio Soloist 3XGT Review: In this hobby I've often read that the headphone is the most important part of the audio chain. It’s said that you should prioritize getting a good headphone over any other gear, and worry about the rest of the audio chain later. As your audio chain improves...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

I finally got to spend some quality time with the 3XGT! Amazing amp. Adding my review to this thread: Burson Audio Soloist 3XGT Review: In this hobby I've often read that the headphone is the most important part of the audio chain. Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)

That's what I've read as well. I've seen lots of mentions of HFI 780 being a fun V shape, and my Pro 780 is much closer to neutral than anything. While I don't use the Pro 780's as often as I should, I'm always amazed at how good they are when I do use them. Very high quality sound at a...

    Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)

I never did find any comparisons myself. Anecdotally I don't think they are the same sound though, as there is a bass improving mod for the HFI that has the opposite effect for the Pro.

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

That's what I was missing, thank you! The .8 amp I measured was from the wall, not output from the supercharger. From the wall .8 amp at 120 volts is 86.4 watts. 86.4 watts from the supercharger at 24 volts is 3.6 amps. So while power from the outlet will never exceed 1-2 amps, the GT series...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Regarding treble on the V6's, the V6's are a bit leaned out where the treble is slightly accentuated. Not enough to stray too far from neutral, but a more "natural" op amp will have less treble emphasis with more sound density. It sounds like the V7's may be more accurate which is great news...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

Regarding the Supercharger, one thing that has always puzzled me is the need for 3 & 5 amp versions. I tested my 3GT (Single Ended) at max volume on high gain and it used around .8 of an amp with no sudden spikes on startup. The balanced 3XGT will use a bit more power, but I can't see how this...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

What Dixter said above is all correct, I just wanted to chime in that I have tried the LM4562, LME49720, and the NE5532. Not the 49860 though. I didn't document the differences between any of those op amps as they were all around the same technical range (different sound signatures, but similar...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

I thought the Staccato's were comparable to the V6 classic, just with more sound stage depth and less overall detail. I tried to use them a few times but never stuck with them since their detail was too much of a step down compared to the V6's. They have a smoothed over and slightly fuzzy sound...

    Hifiman HE6-SE

I also use Audiophile Ninja cables. For about 6 years I tested different conductor types (pure silver, SPC, OCC, PCOCC, etc..) and connectors to find my ideal cables. I ended up making a lot of cables over the years that were better than anything I could find in the lower dollar cable market...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

My opinion only, but it's the difference between sounding really good (V6) and being totally accurate (SS2590). I've been using the 2590's for a few years and every time I've upgraded my chain the 2590's have scaled with it, never showing any limitation or faults. I'd say they might just be...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Not dumb at all! Single vs Dual comes down to the design of the DAC/AMP. You have to choose the correct one for your setup. The 3X GT uses six Dual op amps.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

I must be the only one that thinks the price is really reasonable  The SS2590's are a lot more expensive, with two singles and two duals being around $400. The V7's are a little over half that price with the current bundle promo. I'm in the same boat as others. My Bursons already...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Yes, the SS3601/3602's are also good but I prefer the V6 Vivids over them by a small amount. The SS3601/3602's are clearer sounding with the impression of slightly more detail, but that is mostly because they lean the sound out more compared to the V6's. The 3601/3602's also push the stage out a...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

I've been looking forward to the V7's for years. The V6's are great-- my 3rd favorite op amp in terms of sound reproduction, and my top pick when a smaller form factor is required. I think the big question is how the V7's compare to the Sparkos SS2590's? As much as I like the sound of the...

    Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)

That's good info-- I never tried to leave them running, I just assumed it was brain burn in. Well.. at first I thought it was the cables or something internal. I was convinced the headphones were actually broken with a faulty ground when I got them, but luckily I stuck with them enough to hear...

    Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)

The 5's are the strangest headphones I've ever tried. When you put them on after a long break they sound like you are listening to everything through a coffee can. After about 30 minutes they sound good. After about 60 minutes they sound sublime, and they will continue to sound sublime until you...

New, Burson Conductor 3 Reference: Dual 9038 DAC, 7.5Wpc Head Amp, Preamp, Changeable Opamps

Negative-- there is no volume control via DAC. There is volume control when used as a pre-amp, but you would need a way of measuring the output to make sure you don't push the voltage too high.

New, Fully Balanced Burson Conductor 3X: Dual ESS9038, 7.5wpc XLR, 3.75wpc SE Headamp, Changeable Opamps

3A for both the Reference and Playmate, 5A on the GT. I haven't compared the 5A to the 3A as I assume they sound the same, and I'm quite happy with how the 3A sounds on the Reference.

New, Fully Balanced Burson Conductor 3X: Dual ESS9038, 7.5wpc XLR, 3.75wpc SE Headamp, Changeable Opamps

These are the first posts I've ever seen saying that the Super Charger isn't worth it/doesn't make much of a difference. IMO it's required to get the most out of your Burson. It made a significant difference on my Playmate 2, Reference, and GT.
