Monoprice Monolith THX 887 - Impressions Thread

Does anyone know if I can use this in Europe with a normal plug adapter, or if I would need a voltage stepper (like the previous Monolith 788)? Website says: Power supply: 24 VDC inline brick, universal input 100–240 VAC if that helps.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

Sounds to me like you should stick with the Clears, since you don't find the treble to hot. Hifiman stage is big because it's tall not wide. Not as wide as HD800, if that's what you're after.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

Arya could be problematic if you're very sensitive - I am sensitive and find it just at my limit, and on some songs a little over. Of course, I don't know if you're more sensitive than me, or not. But you can always EQ it, which I sometimes do. HEX resolution isn't a problem unless you get used...

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

They are pretty similar in most ways - the biggest differences are resolution (Arya clearly better), treble (HEX more relaxed/rolled off), and the depth of the soundstage (Arya more 3D/HEX just as big but flatter).

Ah, ok. Interesting. I hadn't noticed that, but you may be right.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

I haven't heard HEKv2 - supposedly similar to Arya - but I wouldn't call Arya rounded and soft, or say LCD-3 has harder edges - but maybe I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Are you talking about speed or FR? I assume you're talking about treble, but maybe I'm off.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

Interesting. I just noticed on their website is says over a quarter watt! I wonder what's up with the revisions to the recommendations.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

Interesting. I talked to Audeze about this, and they recommended half a watt at 110 ohm, which all my amps do better than, but I've never tried it with something more powerful. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to do that at home - although maybe I could take them to a store and test your...

Help request - what's going on?

Just power hungry cans, especially when EQ is being used on uncompressed classical... It's really not a problem that comes up much, more of a mystery that peaked my curiosity.

Help request - what's going on?

No, they were plugged into different sockets.

Help request - what's going on?

I was using fixed line out to maintain my volume matching (I think I remember needing to do something inside the unit to use that option), so volume pot is disabled but gain switch still has an effect (I believe the amp doesn't actually have variable gain, so it's always the DAC making the...

Help request - what's going on?

Thanks, that certainly sounds possible. JDS does say they designed Atom using what they learned on the O2, so it's quite possible they kept the pot in the same chain-position, especially since they seem quite concerned with noise and distortion measurements. The NFB high gain DAC output is 2.5...

Help request - what's going on?

Perhaps someone can answer this question. I was comparing NFB-11.28 to Atom, using the NFB's DAC to isolate differences in the amp sections only. I was listening to "Apostolo glorioso" by Dufay on Spotify (Lorelei Ensemble). 10 seconds in, only when Atom and NFB's DAC are both in high gain (NFB...

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

A big difference, yes. Whether you'd like it more or not, I can't say :) Arya with RME would be an extremely clean, resolving combination. Not much warmth there, if you want that.

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

I'm treble sensitive too - most of the time it's not a problem on Arya, just a moment here or there when a tambourine or something smacks on a track with elevated treble already.

    Comparison Review: Arya vs. LCD-3

This is a detailed comparison review between Hifiman Arya and Audeze LCD-3 (2018/fazor), both of which I own, so I’ve had time to really get to know them. I think it makes sense to review through comparison, since on their own they are both great cans (and also people read reviews to help figure...

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

Ok, when I'm at 3:00 on Atom it's low gain, and pretty loud. High gain is 10:00 to be loud. So it's possible you could benefit from a little more power, but I'm sorry I can say for sure. Hopefully someone with a THX will respond. :)

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

Are you in high or low gain at 3:00? I think Magni 2 is around the minimum you'd want to drive these. I have an Atom, which is similar, and has enough power.

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

On "Burn In" I pulled the trigger on these and noticed the booklet said they should be burnt in 150 hours. I was agnostic about this, having always bought used or factory burnt in HPs. But I thought I'd test it. I can say, I was hoping it was true, because they sounded different (worse) than...

    Monoprice Monolith Desktop THX Amp/DAC

Were you listening balanced or SE? It's interesting you call it "lush" and "smooth" and not "analytical" and "sterile". (Interesting because THX gets called analytical a lot.) Can you elaborate?

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

I would say if you already have Arya, the cost to upgrade to SE probably isn't worth it. Unless it just hits that magical spot of perfection for you. I was super impressed with the SE, but sadly just too bright for me (and luckily for my bank account...)
