Portable setup. Connect phone to DAC/amp via... magnets?
Hey all, I've been browsing and looking for solutions for mounting a phone to a small DAC/amp for portable use, and see most people use an elastic band, or some type of velcro. Both have their downsides. It would seem to me that using a magnet car mount would be a good solution, where a metal...- ymshulman

Headphones in bed?
Oh, and a pillow that should allow for many earbuds is one by Purple. I've only done research on their mattresses, but those actually allow you to sit on an egg without breaking it - so I imagine a pillow from them would be good with many in-ears.- ymshulman

Headphones in bed?
Not a HiFi solution, but the same Jaybird Freedoms I use for working out are of a slim enough profile to use in bed.- ymshulman

New Member Introductions thread
(It makes more sense than it looks like - the first option would be a transportable solution for the HD6xx, and the second would be just for desktop use, but would allow me to go portable with the Dragonfly and my ATH M50x)- ymshulman

What would your first thought be as a better pairing for the Sennheiser HD6xx: iFi micro iDSD (non-BL) by itself Dragonfly Red with a tube amp? (Possibly the DarkVoice)- ymshulman

Would that apply even when comparing something portable to a desktop, like comparing the Dragonfly black/red to a basic Schiit DAC?- ymshulman

Transportable DAC/amp for HD6xx, that can scale to add tubes at desk
Hi, I ordered the Massdrop HD6xx, and have being reading up on various DAC/amp options. I have a pair of ATH M50x, but this is my first real foray into good audio. I know now that the Schiit stack is thought to be the starting point for these headphones; and tube amps are considered the way to...- ymshulman

HELP setting up a portable ifi Nano system.
Does that only make a difference for getting into "balanced" audio? I know this might be a very n00b question - apologies for that!- ymshulman

Portable DAC Recommendation
Does every portable DAC/amp also allow for bypassing the integrated amp when one is at a desktop with a separate amp? Or does that vary depending on the portable - and is there a simple way to tell?- ymshulman

Stalking for years, joined a few weeks ago, but never posted here. Bought some Bose earbuds about 10 years back and that was my first intro to "better than what it came with" headphones. (They're still sitting somewhere - I think they sound terrible now!) Bought the ATH M50X about two years...- ymshulman

HD 6XX vs HD598 vs HD58X Jubilee
And the HD598, even without an amp, would still outperform something like the ATH M50x's? Or would this be one of those times where if one isn't using an amp, better to get the lower impedence headphones for quality alone?- ymshulman

Can I ask - is the iFi nano iDSD the same DAC as the micro iDSD, which I understand is pretty highly regarded?- ymshulman

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
This might be a long shot... But are there online EQ testing places where one can start getting a feel for which sound signature one might prefer? Obviously would not compare to comparing real equipment, but just to give one a starting point?- ymshulman

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
From what I'm hearing, although the LCX is a very nice amp, it isn't clearly the option to pick over others like the Schiit stack or the original iFI micro iDSD, particularly since it carries almost a $200 premium, and particularly if one would see the LCX as having to be the endgame, and the...- ymshulman

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
I see Massdrop just announced the Liquid Carbon X + SDAC. I'm new to this; I ordered a pair of the HD6xx, and am looking for a DAC/amp to pair with it. I'm seeing a lot of writing about balanced wiring, and don't know what I'm looking at. Would this DAC/amp from Massdrop need other equipment...- ymshulman

HD 6XX vs HD598 vs HD58X Jubilee
On a similar note about the DAC/amp - could I recommend the 598 to a friend that would not be using a separate DAC/amp, or better to send him to a different set of headphones?- ymshulman

Advice on DAC/AMP that can scale well (ATH-M50x, to HD6xx)
Hi again, With the drop on the HD6xx ending in just a few hours, I hope its okay for me to ask again about this. If I were to order the HD6xx now, instead of buying the magni/modi stack which is not portable, could I substitute part of that (the DAC, I would think) for something else I could...- ymshulman

Hi, I’ve been stalking head-fi for a few years now, and appreciate the advice I’ve found in the past! This is the first time I’m posing a question that I could not find a clear answer to. I’d love the community’s input! I’ve been using the ATH-M50x for a while, driving them straight from my...- ymshulman
