So I just got the Sony MDR 1000x
Thanks of the link! Very cool site. I wish there was more info about the measurements as they look really weird (not only for the MDR-1000x). Take a look at the competitor of the Sony, the Sennheiser Momentum here. 35dB down at ~4kHz compared to 100Hz! I looked a several others models and it's... -

Sony MDR-1000X vs Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (HD1 rebrand) vs Beoplay H7 vs Oppo PM-3
I wouldn't worry too much about the codec. Just go for the ones you like. The difference between SBC and aptx is not as great as many claim in my experience.- California_Audiophool

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
Don't forget the LG V20. Has a great quad DAC and I can attest to the fact that the amp is quite strong putting out just over 2V and driving my headphones very well. It also have removable battery and SD slot.- California_Audiophool

Sony MDR-1000X vs Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (HD1 rebrand) vs Beoplay H7 vs Oppo PM-3
Thanks for the interesting comments! One thing was particularly interesting were your comments about the Sony MDR-1000X bass. I found the bass to be present and sufficient in quantity, but somewhat boomy and lacking in detail. However, when I hooked up wired to my LG V20 (which has a very...- California_Audiophool

So I just got the Sony MDR 1000x
Are you sure about the measurement technique and the wired source? A 20dB dip at 2kHz would be drastically noticeable; on my headphones the 2kHz region is not noticeably affected when going between wireless and wired (LG V20 source). (Playing with EQ and adjusting by just a couple of dB at 2kHz... -

Sony MDR-1000X vs Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (HD1 rebrand) vs Beoplay H7 vs Oppo PM-3
Can't comment on the H7s but just wanted to add I really preferred the Sony MDR-1000X over the Sennheiser pxc550. You may prefer the Sennheiser but for me they have too much mids... needs EQ all of the time to my ears but I know some like it. The touch controls are not quite as good as the sony...- California_Audiophool

Sony MDR-1000X vs Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 (HD1 rebrand) vs Beoplay H7 vs Oppo PM-3
Of those phones I have had only the MDR1000x. I've also had B&O H9, Bose QC-35, B&W P7 & Senn PCX550. The MDX1000x is great - no problems with creaking, comfort or touch controls (contrary to many reports I found them to be excellent). Also the Sony ANC was in another league to the QC-35. (sony...- California_Audiophool

New Member Introductions thread
Hi Everyone, I've been a lurker here for longer than I can remember. I mainly hang out over at Audiokarma which has a nice community for my main interest (restoring vintage tube and solid-state amplifiers, mostly Sansui, Luxman, Yamaha, Pioneer). I'm known as "smurfer77" over there. Aside from...- California_Audiophool
