[Review/ Impression] New Furutech ADL H118 headphones
Very very old thread, but for who might be interested I found them a bit close on the highs (I have a pair of Beyers with Tesla drivers), so decided to be brave and going for the well known grado mod. Dismounted the ear pads and found a black fabric disc sticked on the drivers. Removed it and...- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I do listen to classical, besides other genres, and I do like them really a lot. I feed them with several digital sources and the phone output of my Accuphase pre. They sound really really well to my ears, at a point that they reveal the tiniest detail, yet in the big picture, if I can say. For...- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Here is another classical fan, with 1990s you can easily discern between a good recording and a poor one. The same on pop, yesterday evening I took an old "the very best of..." and the difference in quality of different recordings was really straightforward. I can't completely understand who...- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Thanks for sharing! I agree that 3 meters are on the longish size but on the other side I hate to cope with very short cables, so I would consider any change only for (even) better quality- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Same for me, but in my case i feel the treble issue is often due to poorly recorded tracks. BTW, nice setup! What cable are you using?- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I can understand your point on "brightness", but IMHO they are just revealing the quality of the recording which is - in the end - exactly what they should be made for... and what I'm after, in the end Any element of the chain has an influence on the final result, just choose a different cable...- Genoa1893

They are absolutely comfortable to me, except perhaps when it's really really hot due to the velour of the pads.- Genoa1893

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Hi, I must say I wasn't so keen on headphones but the DT1990s are really gorgeous. Indeed I find them really balanced. I mean, the treble is here but likewise the bass and the midrange. Yesterday evening I listend to Schumann's Piano Concerto and the first movement of Grieg's Piano Concerto and...- Genoa1893

Listened to my tuner for a long time, rediscovering a whole bunch of 80-90's songs. I didn't know old good analog broadcast can sound so well. I've the clear impression they have a resolving power limited either by the recording or by other elements of the chain.- Genoa1893

accuphase as headphone amp
A quick update for who might eventually be interested. I managed to sort out the issue with the left channel. Well, the Beyers really shine and I re-discovered a bunch of CDs I "thought" to know well. In particular, a Philips recording I'm very fond of, has been finally "revealed". It has...- Genoa1893

accuphase as headphone amp
DT-1990-Pro sound perfectly adequate at just half turn of the volume knob. If only the left speaker of the headphones would sound... infact it only emits a very faint sound and I suspect the speaker is blown- Genoa1893

Many thanks! I just missed an apparently nice bulid of a O2 model with burson opamp. Too base, here in Europe either schiit or O2 are not easy widespread and available, but I'll keep searching. Stefano- Genoa1893

A DT1990 is on its way to my home. Any suggestion for a matching amp providing the most transparent sound reproduction? TIA, Stefano- Genoa1893

Yep, it seems the HE400S is very nice! And I thought planar "should" sound "quicker" than the powerful magnets of the "Tesla" but can't understand why the frequency response is so heavily "dampened" from 10KHz to 20KHz while Tesla tech seems more detailed...- Genoa1893

Hi serman005, thanks a lot for your advice! I'll start digging info on it and on how to get one in Europe at a reasonable price since too often US items are overpriced here. Many thanks again and have a nice weekend you all!- Genoa1893

Lot of questions! So, around 350 usd mark, my Accuphase is a pre, I plan to simply use its headphones output. Many sources (squeezebox, cd, turntable!). I think I would prefer an open headphone. Thank you!- Genoa1893

Hi all folks! For some years I've been listening through loudspeakers. Now a new flat and a smaller room strongly suggest me to consider a good headphone setup. I mainly listen to classic music (orchestra, chamber, baroque), but also Dire Straits. My pre is not a dedicated headphone pre but it...- Genoa1893
