    Vali 2 tube rolling

Brimar ECC88, warm yet spacious. I never looked back and it's been 2 1/2 years. BTW I joined when I ordered my Vali 2 and the Brimar tube.

    Find some affordable earphones

IEM = in-ear monitors, aka earbuds. At any rate Meze provides excellent value.

    Find some affordable earphones

I bought Meze Neo 11 IEMs for $59 US this past January and found them both comfortable and transparent. With Beats, Bose, etc., you're paying for the brand name.

Review by '1mctous' on item 'Schiit Audio Modi Multibit (aka Mimby)'

By offering a true R2R ladder DAC for $249, Schiit has once again raised the bar. Those who argue that all DACs sound alike have probably only heard the nearly universal delta-sigmas, since multibit DACs pretty much disappeared after the mid-1990s. The Modi Multibit sounded quite different...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

You can polish turds, but they still smell just as bad.  Seriously, this isn't Schiit's market.  Above all their customers look for value (maximum performance/price).

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

MQA is the ransom-based scheme you're talking about, the music industry's latest pay-to-play?  How will we know if it's actually lossless, since many companies upsample 16/44.1 and call it hi-resolution?

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

The DAC makes an easily audible difference no matter what.  The headphone amp becomes important once you upgrade from cheap IEMs to more power-hungry full-size headphones.  I agree with Schiit's approach to keep them separate, or at least keep them modular in the Jotenheim.

What is jitter and what does it mean?

Those of us who grew up with over-the-air analog TV will remember how the picture would roll with some weak signals.  That happened because the vertical sync circuits couldn't separate the all-important pulses.  The better and more steady the sync pulses got, the more stable the picture.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

The CMEDIA driver dates from March 2014, and Windows 10 did not play nice with it.  After several rounds with Compatibility settings, I finally got it to work and it has worked ever since.  The Schiit Modi Multibit's sound is well worth the driver hassle.

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

Understood.  I have a separate phono preamp (not the Schiit, although it contended for the spot).

I intend to listen to both computer-based digital and analog LPs, so Schiit's modular approach makes sense to me.

Review by '1mctous' on item 'Klipsch R6m Black In Ear Headphone'

Even at their current $89 price, I consider the Klipsch R6s an excellent value.  They are fundamentally honest about what you put into them.  Although they reveal a great deal about each recording, they are not ruthless, but they do not flatter inferior source material (MP3s) or mediocre...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I am inspired by your company's work: good-sounding audio electronics at affordable prices.  I just received my new Vali 2 and have Haitink's excellent 1963 Bruckner 3rd (original Philips LP) playing through it, and am anxiously awaiting my new Modi Multibit.

Reply to review by '1mctous' on item 'Schiit Audio Vali 2'

Right out of the box, the Vali 2 sounds a bit harsh but more transparent than a Magni 2, with the expected tube virtues (truth of timbre, dynamics, and space) and just a bit of tube vice (bass overhang).  I am already quite pleased and look forward to hearing it break in.
