Arizona Head-Fi MiniCon the Fourth: October 5th, 2019

Would you look at that, just in time for me to be in the market for a good open-back. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out, quite a drive as always. A few pieces of gear I've been hoping to demo; Headphones - Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro - Audeze LCD-X - Sennheiser HD 800 S - HiFiMAN Edition XX /...

    NEW Schiit Lyr 2: Impressions

Honestly, I'm not sure why you would bother. Don't get me wrong, the Lyr 2 is a wonderful amp and I'll probably never get rid of mine. That said, if I owned a Lyr 1 already I'd be in no rush to upgrade. It's easy to let the upgrade-itis take hold when companies start releasing updated versions...

Best Schiit Amp for HD 650?

One isn't necessarily better than the other, they're different beasts. Which one will be better for you depends largely on your personal preferences. If you've found you enjoy the distortions introduced by tubes, OTL tube amps are known to work well with the HD6x0's. If you want something...

"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers

Great stuff Dan, really impressive action on you and your companies part.   I've only purchased a pair of alpha pads and a leather band from you guys, but your service was excellent and the product exceeded expectations. Open sourcing the Alpha Dogs cements you in my mind as one of the best...

    Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers

Hey guys, new(er) Lyr 2 owner here.   I've spent a few months with my amp and headphones now, and absolutely loving the setup. I've put in a lot of listening hours with both the factory tubes, as well as the LISST, and ultimately have found I prefer the sound of the stock tubes in general.  ...

Best Schiit Amp for HD 650?

The Valhalla 2 is considered by many to be an exceptional match for the HD650. Depending on your existing setup, however, the Jotunheim might offer some functionality you would be able to make use of.   I'd say it's between those two, toss up of personal preference.

    NEW Schiit Lyr 2: Impressions

Well I can't tell you what will be best for you, but I can tell you I chose the Lyr 2.   The Jotunheim is really impressive, especially at the price point. It is among the least "colored" amps I have ever listened to, if that is a priority for you. If you have anything balanced, or are...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This thread has been a perfect example of the phenomenon you described in the previous chapter "Why You Can't Always Get What You Want". That said, the amp you described right there is exactly what I had in mind when I made my original post. Naturally, an ideal product for me is not...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Totally reasonable point. I've got an infrared thermometer I like to use to check in on how hot things are running from time to time, which gives me a pretty good indication if something needs more airflow. Not everyone has one of those though, so it's a good rule of thumb to avoid it when...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks for the read, Jason. I really enjoy these product development chapters, and the little bit of insight they provide to the process of bringing a product from concept through "mass" production. They have, in fact, provided the final nudge in my decision to purchase a growing number of your...

    September 10th 2016 Arizona Head-Fi Meet Impressions/Pictures

First meet for me, but a great experience. Thanks to everyone who came out with some gear to demo, made a lot of very useful comparisons for future reference and enjoyed the discussion. Left with some ideas on how I want to mod my Fostex. Shout out to Garage1217 for being friendly, informative...

    September 10th, 2016: Arizona Head-Fi Meet Q3 2016

Noted, that's a good point with comparison to the Pioneer. I'll bring it along.     I have it paired with a Stereo 120. The golden age of DIY kits like these neat pieces of equipment was before my time, but how well they've stood up to the test of time says a lot. I think the front...

    September 10th, 2016: Arizona Head-Fi Meet Q3 2016

Ok, put me down as coming. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend for the full duration of the meet, but I'll certainly be making an appearance. I'll be bringing along the previously mentioned Lyr 2 (stock tube and LISST) amp and stock Fostex T50RP MK3 headphones. If there is enough interest in...

    New Member Introductions thread

Hello Head-Fi community. I've lurked heavily here for some time, but with a meet coming up soon in my area it seemed like the right time to register.   I've been an audio enthusiast for years and I've had the privilege of listening to many pieces of remarkable equipment, but exclusively in the...

    September 10th, 2016: Arizona Head-Fi Meet Q3 2016

Don't put it on the list just now because I can't yet commit to being there, but I certainly intend to at least come by. If I do make it, I'll bring along my Schiit Lyr 2 amplifier (with stock tubes, have LISST as well but ability to swap will be limited). I'll also bring my entirely stock...
